The product, in the report: Dry mix drywall joint compound
USG brand sheetrock easy sand 90 minute drywall compound was used in my home for some drywall repair and patching (relatively small areas). Start date September 6, 2024, last date of application in a series of small areas was September 16, 2024 . The product was mixed with pure water according to manufacturer’s instructions and applied according to manufacturer’s instructions. The product smelled terrible, but it was assumed that after the material cured completely it would have no odor (as claimed by the manufacturer. )
A mineral paint that had been tested by the homeowner (completely safe and no odor after a few hours) was applied over the patched areas which had been allowed to dry overnight before paint application.
As of todays date, October 8, 2024, the homeowner has been forced to relocate and has not been able to return to her home due to the toxic odor, which causes allergic reaction, anaphylaxis, migraine and vomiting. And the bottom line is - that if she is reacting to something- it is toxic, and neurotoxic to children, babies, pregnant women, elderly, sensitive, allergic, and immunocompromised individuals.
Homeowner has been in contact with USG since September 29, 2024 and has not been provided with any information (and company has thus far refused to provide information about) about ingredients simply called “binders” on the product’s MSDS. The word “binder(s) “ is not an ingredient name, it is the function of an undisclosed ingredient(s).
The homeowner has been forced to relocate into a shed outside of her home. The problem cannot be remedied until the problematic ingredient(s) have been identified.
