First aid Made Mar 9, 2025, sent to the company Mar 12, 2025, published by CPSC Mar 26, 2025
The product, in the report: The saw blade (also called Dry cutter) is 8 inches in diameter. This is a cicular rsteel body and has 16 teeth with diamond segments. The diamond segments are laser welded to the steel core/body. The welding strength, as a norm, should conform to BS EN13236 standard. This saw blade is used for sawing/cutting, grinding / carving granite by stone processing factories that make memorials / tombstones for export to USA and Europe.
What happened that made you want to report? - Imported products from S. Korean company, which is also based in USA. They shipped 3 cargoes of defective saw blades. This company also has a subsidiary in USA, facing a lawsuit by the US government. What type of product(s) were being used? - Diamond Segmented Saw blades 8” in diameter used for carving, grinding, and sawing granite Who was using the product(s)? Our customers in India (all of them are granite processing factories) How were the product(s) being used? The saw blades (also called Dry cutters) were used to grind and saw granite memorials for export to US and Europe Were there any injuries that happened or may have happened while using the product? The tips (segments & steel teeth) broke off from the saw blades. Flew like bullets. Pierced the bodies of workers. Injured many. Workers stopped work in protest. Factories suffered a loss of production. We, as importers and suppliers, faced the wrath of factory owners, production managers, and workers. We want to warn and caution US users about the company since they operate in USA too. How did any injuries occur? The segments, steep teeth break and fly off the saw blades like bullets. Workers were injured in their thigh, stomach, and groin regions. The manufacturer SHINHAN DIAMOND, Korea (also has a subsidiary in USA/ facing a lawsuit by the US government) for refused to acknowledge the seriousness of over 2000nos of defective saw blades shipped in three cargoes. They refused to acknowledge the extensive work we did for damage control. Recalling defective blades, replacing them with the second cargo, which again turned out to be defective, recalling a second time, and again replacing with the third cargo that once again turned out to be defective. We paid for the import, freight, duties, taxes, free shipping to customers, free recall, and free replacement. Nothing was done by the manufacturer. Instead, the manufacturer claimed anything can happen and that they are not responsible.
