The product, in the report: Hyper Tough (corded) circular saw from Wal-Mart in Eufaula. Hyper Tough 120 V 12 AMP 7-1/4 inch corded circular saw Model # AQ10019G. UPC Code 8952618126.

FACTS On 03/20/21 I purchased a Hyper Tough (corded) circular saw from Wal-Mart in Eufaula, Alabama. Hyper Tough 120 V 12 AMP 7-1/4 inch corded circular saw model # AQ10019G. UPC Code 8952618126. I did not notice that the protective guard on the Hyper Tough saw leaves a significant portion of the blade exposed in the front (several teeth). My son’s [REDACTED] circular saw is designed much better, and his blade guard fully covers the cutting blade. I also did not notice how weak the return spring on the guard cover was on the Hyper Tough saw. It does not snap the blade guard cover back in place like my son’s [REDACTED] saw. On 04/02/21 while cutting a board using my Hyper Tough circular saw, I was severely injured. My wife was holding the board. I am extremely dominant right-handed. I was crouched down doing the cutting. I was using two hands to run the saw, with my right hand operating the trigger and safety. The saw made a loud popping sound and kicked backward into the air, with a force hard enough to snatch it completely out of my hands. The saw struck me in the head, and landed on my right thumb, cutting it 95 percent off my hand. The inner skin was all that held my thumb on. The poorly designed blade cover allowed the injury to happen. The return spring failed to allow the blade cover to close, even if it did not completely close. Why was the saw blade still spinning long enough to sever my right thumb if my right hand was completely off the saw trigger and safety? I was hospitalized due to the injury. Two separate surgeries were required to re-attach my thumb, bones, tendons, and nerves. I had four screws and one pin holding my thumb in place. On 05/21/21, I had the long push pin in the end of my thumb removed. On 06/18/21, I had the four screws in the side of my thumb removed. The bones, and tendons appear to be healing. As of today - 08/25/21, my thumb still appears to be swollen, mangled, scarred, and completely numb from the cut line upward. It is essentially a door stop, and I am pretty much right hand disabled, but at least I still have my thumb. I guess that I was somewhat lucky. The saw could have zipped across my face, neck, or cut my right hand off. In any of those three cases, I would likely be dead. That is something the next Hyper Tough customer / victim may face. I have been using power tools for 51 years (since I was 10) and have never been inured prior to 04/02/21. This “Accident” due to a poorly and negligently designed defective saw has cost me $6,000 out of pocket and much trauma and pain as of today. I have several photos as evidence.
