The product, in the report: Air Compressor Husky 25 Gal. Model Y6010-WK Ser. No. 2302070444 Manufactured by DeVilbiss Air Power Co Sold At:Porter-Cable by industrial and construction distributors, Manufactured from July 2003 through December 2008.
Turned on the air compressor and before it got fully pumped up it caught on fire. I turned it off, unplugged it and took off the cover to see what happened. The motor windings were burnt. The motor is not repairable.
I tried to find out if a repair was possible and learned it was on Recall. Porter Cable could not find a repair. They wanted to replace it with a 15 Gal. air compressor but that size is not suitable for my shop. The 25 Gal. duty cycle when being used is from 150 psi down to 120. During that time the pump is not running and no noise. I have a ear damage from a chemical exposure so have to go out of shop when pump is running. Small tanks like the 15 Gal. they wanted me to take run all the time or most of the time when being used. This would make work impossible and damage my ear more and cause pain.
I’m reporting because I need another air compressor and having trouble getting a replacement or money to purchase another compressor. This communication with Porter Cable and not Stanley Black & Decker has taken over a month and not going very well.
It was not used a lot, stored for a few years, and well cared for. Used mostly with small hand air tools and to pump up small tires and too blow off saws, etc.
