Hurt, no treatment Made Nov 6, 2019, sent to the company Dec 9, 2019, published by CPSC Dec 23, 2019
The product, in the report: Air Compressor (used with power tools) 26 gallon
The consumer used the compressor once in a while (maybe once every few weeks/months).
Recently (Summer 2019), the consumer started using the compressor for longer periods of time (approx.. 30 – 60 minutes) if it lasted that long. The air compressor would be in use, but the pressure would decrease and it would stop operating. The setting would drop as it recycled and the compressor would not turn back on. The air compressor then began to get extremely hot. The consumer said he burned his fingers when touching the air compressor after one of these incidents (date unknown).
Once the consumer began to use the air compressor for more than 1 cycle, the problem began to happen every time he used the machine.
10/31/2019: The consumer saw [REDACTED] referenced on-line and called the firm’s recall phone number: [REDACTED], but was told his machine was not included and there was nothing they could do for him. Nothing else transpired.
The consumer believes that this issue presents a fire and burn hazard.

The product, in the report: Air compressor
I know your time is as valuable as mine, but I appeal to you to make proactive my concerns about the above referenced. I enclose a copy of impersonal form letter received from Sears front and back. Also, I enclose my letters to [REDACTED] dated 4 January 13 and 28 January 13 respectively. Also, letter to [REDACTED] dated 28 January 13. My initial letter to [REDACTED] explained my position concerning original purchase. Also, my concern for even continuing to house a faulty piece of electrical product capable of starting a fire. I was quite disappointed by the response from his customer service center. Especially, he not personally responding. I then wrote [REDACTED], to date no response. Understand, my letters are fashioned to be professional, but their subsequent responses inflamed me to mix in some direct blunt comments.
Personally, I am concerned about this product being a fire hazard. I want a safe operating product, not a potential hazard. I, in good faith, trusted the product and paid their asking price for the product. I needed the product to perform for my needs. This is not a product of my irresponsibility. I request the product not be patched, but replaced for safety purposes. Further, I should not be ‘strong armed’ into having to replace their defective work.

The product, in the report: Air compressor (You don’t have a category for tools)
In June, 2010, I received a Craftsman air compressor (#00915215000 Mfr. model #15215) as a gift. I have used it very sparingly at my “up north” home. It has been used less than a dozen times all told. My son needed it (July 4th) to inflate a tow tube for the boat. when he turned it on he was shocked so hard that he collapsed to the ground - even the GFI didn’t trip. My electrician friend came over and, not believing me, tried it and got the exact same reaction. the then put his meter on it and told me that the circuitry was running thru the metal outside parts. When I contacted Sears repair, their only concern was that I did not purchase the “insurance policy” for mechanical failure.
I am concerned that some one will get killed. Both my son, and the electrician were barefoot, on the cement basement floor. If a person is not going to ground, they are safe, but if they are “grounded”, they are in mortal danger. Thank God the floor was dry!
Sears, obviously needs to be prodded in to action. If you need my correspondence with them, email me and I will forward it to you.

The product, in the report: 15 Gallon Craftsman Air Compressor w/vertical tank; Mfrd. by DeVilbiss
I own a Craftsman air compressor; I had seen a list of recalled air compressors that someone at my workplace had sent out to me; I checked my Model number against the ones listed on the recall. my compressor was not there, but the model number was only digit different from one that was listed; the number on my compressor is 919-166442, the recalled compressors number is 919-16644. Everything about the compressors is the same except the one digit, and the manufacture date; my compressor was made in 2006, and the recalled compressors were made from 5/2004 to 3/2005. the reason the compressors were recalled was that they had a defect that made the motor overheat and made them a fire hazard. My compressor has just recently stopped shutting itself off when it reaches capacity, which would make the motor overheat and create a fire hazard. I believe that my compressor is, or should be part of the recall.
