The product, in the report: Portable battery jump start for vehicles.

On 4/21/2016 around 2:15 pm, I was awakened by my smoke detectors alarming. I work nights, so I was asleep. Upon opening the door to my room, smoke was noted to fill my entire house. I went to my garage door in my house and noticed the door was open and the smoke was coming from the garage. There were flames coming from where the Whistler Jump & Go portable jumpstart was. The product was plugged in to charge and sitting on top of our freezer, near a non-functioning [REDACTED] that was not plugged in. The fire caused tons of smoke damage to the garage and interior of my home. The fire department came, fire was put out and smoke was released from the inside of my home. Luckily, I only suffered mild smoke inhalation. A fire report was filed by the fire marshal for Midlothian, TX. At this time, a claim has been filed with my insurance. I was notified later in the afternoon by the fire marshal that this product had been recalled and was told to report the incident.

Made Nov 19, 2015, sent to the company Nov 30, 2015, published by CPSC Dec 21, 2015

The product, in the report: Small portable charging device to jump your vehicle or charge your cell phone.

My partner, [REDACTED], purchased a Whistler Jump and Go this year. We have never had cause to use it, not even one time. Our van was not starting last night and I remembered my Whister Jump and Go. For the very first time at 11:00 p.m. last night, [REDACTED] plugged in the Whistler Jump and Go to charge it. At 3:00 a.m. (fours hour later) I was awoken by the sound of my smoke detector going off. I saw the glow of flames before I rounded the corner form the hallway to the living room. Fortunately, [REDACTED] had rested the Jump and Go on top of a metal gas fireplace stove. When I entered the room there were flames approximately one foot in height coming off of the Jump and Go. I went to the kitchen to grab a cotton kitchen towel to smother the flames. I was able to diminish the flames to a point that I could grad the device and walk ten feet to the kitchen sink where I sprayed the device with water until the fire was completely out. I have taken photos of the device and cord.

This was the first time we ever used the device. Thank God for smoke detectors and that [REDACTED] put it on the metal stove otherwise I believe we would have died in a trailer fire!!!!!!!!!

After the fire I reviewed the manual for this device and it does not have any safety guidelines for charging or leaving the device unattended. Shame on the Whistler Company!

The product, in the report: Whistler Jump & Go Portable Jumpstart & Power Supply - upc 52303 40726

I did not know about the recall. I purchased 3 of these units and gave 2 of them as Christmas presents to my children. I just today needed mine, so I plugged it in to charge it about 2 pm today. I noticed it hadn’t charged at 5 pm, but just thought it needed 24 hours. While back in my bedroom, I heard a popping noise in the kitchen around 9 pm. I went out there and the unit was on fire. The flames had also caught some papers on fire. I used a fire extinguisher on it. My counter top has a burn spot on it, and some recipes, dishes, and papers were lost, but fortunately that is all.
