The product, in the report: “MaxAir” Floor Air Pump manufactured by Air Power America model 7500. 70 psi rated. Engineered for automobile and trailer tires. Made in USA. Descripton available at www.airpoweramerica.com. Purchased at WalMart.
I puchased a “MaxAir” model 7500 tire pump from WalMart a little over one year ago. It is made by Air Power America and advertised as rated up to 70 psi and for use with autombile tires. Last week, on 10/3/13, I was attaching the pump to my car tire’s air valve to put air in my car tire when the handle shot straight up and out of the base and struck me in the left cheek bone. Luckily, I wear eye glasses and that protected my left eye. My glasses were also partically struck by the handle. I felt as if I had been punched in the face and my cheek was bruised and tender for a few days after. The handle actually shot out of the body of the pump and detached from it, striking me in the face. It is now broken and in two pieces. I could have been seriously injured and if my 9 year old had been using it, he could have been killed. If I had not been wearing glasses, I could have been blinded by the strike. I could have lost a tooth had it hit me in the mouth. My tire was only at about 30 psi, nowhere near the 70 psi max advertised rating. I have e-mailed WalMart and Air Power America, which manufactured the tire pump but no reply yet.
