  1. First aid

Made Oct 23, 2020, sent to the company Dec 3, 2020, published by CPSC Dec 17, 2020

The product, in the report: essentially a gear cluster enclosed in a aluminum box approximately 15”X24” with a gear set & safety lever & sprocket on the outside. The lift cable is attached to the gear cluster through the open bottom of the box.

While attempting to lift a watercraft with a Hewitt model 2001 boat lift winch , the lifting mechanism failed causing the boat to fall back into the water. This appears to be due to the fact that the safety lever which is supposed to engage a sprocket on the gear drive & stop the reverse motion did not engage. The lake is being drawn down for maintenance which has resulted in the boat’s outdrive now sinking down into the mud. Several attempts were made to lift the boat were unsuccessful.
