  1. No one hurt

Made Dec 26, 2016, sent to the company Jan 18, 2017, published by CPSC Feb 2, 2017

The product, in the report: Remote control electric winch

Purchased a remote control winch from Harbor Freight 3/19/16. Used it first time 8/3/16 to lower a 50’ antenna tower. Below is what was sent to Harbor freight. Before I complete my online review of the winch purchased below and first used today, I wanted to share my experience with the first use. I used it to lower a 50 foot antenna tower that is hinged at the bottom and has an adjacent 2”conduit extending 15’ high with a large pulley on the top for the winch cable to roll during the tower movement down and up. The winch lowered the tower with a slow and steady motion as expected. What I did not expect is the end of the cable to come off the winch and have the tower with antenna drop about 3 feet to the ground causing the antenna rotator and mast to become damaged. I have a replacement mast to use but had to order a replacement rotator as the impact broke the housing and mount. The replacement rotator cost me 92.93 and I would not have had to replace it or the mast if the winch cable had not come off the winch spool. The end that came off looked like it only had a slight twist where it had possibly been folded over. That is not a reliable method to attach the cable to the spool. What will Harbor Freight propose as a result of this product defect with resulting damages?

This would have served my purpose well had the cable not come off.

    Thanks
