The product, in the report: Qidi Plus 4 3d printer https://qidi3d.com/products/plus4-3d-printer
I recently purchased a Qidi 3D printer called the Plus 4. This was a new model on the market and I ordered it at the end of September, receiving it October 1st. I used this printer for several weeks before discovering some serious safety issues. After two weeks of use, I noticed a very strong burning plastic smell from this device. On discussing the issue with other members on the official Qidi tech [REDACTED], I removed the back panel from my printer and discovered the line voltage Solid State Relay that controls power for the chamber heater had melted significantly. This began my attempts to get the company to recall the printer and fix the problem. Since then, the past few weeks have been a cluster of bad decisions from the manufacturer. I asked the company to send a notice to all purchasers that continued use of the chamber heater was unsafe. Several [REDACTED] videos have been made by other early users demonstrating the immediate need for a recall and replacement of this part. The manufacturer has put this off for weeks. They have responded that the tests weren’t “fair”, even when I presented my own evidence that this was a fire hazard. They sent out replacement parts only to people who specifically asked for them, and sent out the same defective part as original.
They also updated the firmware on their printer, without telling any customers that this was required, to a setting which uses less power, but is still creating unsafe temperatures in this power supply. Upwards of 210C has been recorded on video by several people in testing.
A few days ago they started shipping out a poorly made replacement that while it might work temporarily, it is probably not safe for long term use with the high current heater it controls. Today was the last straw. Instead of warning all of their customers of a potential fire hazard and to stop using this 3d printer, they sent out an email to some customers that said
“We would like to inform you that some units of Plus4 may experience relay aging during use, which could lead to machine failure. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and for not informing you sooner.”
This is unacceptable. Anyone using this printer is currently at risk of burning wires and this relay board on an unprotected line voltage heater. Nothing in this system will shut down the power input if this board catches fire or melts. They need to notify all buyers that use of the chamber heater must be stopped immediately. Since this part is directly connected to line voltage, it is unsafe to ask most customers to replace this part themselves, deserving at least a voluntary recall of all the printers to properly replace this part.
I’m hoping that there have been numerous reports of this component failure, as many people I have discussed this with online have said they are filing similar complaints. I can return this printer or demand a refund, but they are not warning the thousands of unaware buyers of this product of the potential dangers involved.
You can learn all about this issue with the following [REDACTED] videos.
[REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] there are many more.
I’m happy to provide the many emails they have sent me, quotes of what they have sent to others, whatever detailed information is required.
Because the company is not doing the right thing to protect consumers, I’m hoping this agency will force their hand. All customers of the Qidi Plus 4 printer should be notified that using the chamber heater can lead to dangerous temperatures on the heater power supply, which can melt or burn the components. In an unmonitored situation, I have no doubt this will eventually cause a fire. Let’s try to prevent that.
They should offer every customer either a return for full refund, or send a properly engineered replacement part out and reimburse customers for having professional installation by a certified electrician. They are still shipping printers with the original defective part, they are shipping out a new part which has hand soldered components on it. None of these parts are safe for connecting to household electrical power, and asking untrained users to install the new ones without even a comprehensive installation guide is nuts. Someone is going to wire it up wrong and burn down their house!

The product, in the report: Qidi Plus 4 3D printer
Qidi Tech is a Chinese based 3D printer manufacturer. Their new product “Qidi Plus 4” has a faulty SSR board that powers the chamber heater. These SSR boards are not rated for the 110 volts commonly used in the USA and thus, are a fire hazard. The official user group on [REDACTED] has many posts showing users posting their machines SSR actually melting. Qidi Tech has NOT issued a recall, in fact, they are trying to sweep this under the rug. They are NOT proactively notifying consumers of the potential risk, in fact they claimed in emails submitted by users that there is “No risk of fire” which is absolutely not true. They are NOT issuing replacement boards to everyone, they are only issuing them to users who found out about this issue through the community groups and who ask for them. Moreover, these are electrical components that directly connect to the power, so the average user should NOT be attempting to do this repair themselves as Qidi wants them to do. I personally notified Qidi and told them what they are doing is criminal and demanded they recall the machines. They have ignored this. Houses, garages, barns, or anywhere else someone may setup this printer is at serious risk of a fire. The deliberate gas lighting of consumers, telling them there is no risk is unacceptable and something needs to be done immediately before someone is hurt or dies in a fire. Watch it melt here: [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Qidi Tech Plus 4 3D printer, gray/silver in color
In September of ‘24 I bought a Qidi Tech Plus 4 3 D printer. This printer is capable of printing high-temperature materials such as Nylon, Polycarbonate, ASA, ABS, etc. In order to successfully print those materials the printer relies on a closed environment-achieved by a removable glass top and a glass door as well as a chamber heater. This heater circulates warm/hot air throughout the build chamber of the printer and maintains a fairly consistent temperature for the duration of the print cycle, which can vary in duration. Depending upon the size of the model being printed the print time can be 30 minutes to 24 hours or so. This chamber heater is controlled by an SSR which is located on the inside rear of the machine. This SSR is not suited for our 110v system and in many cases is overheating to the point of turning the coils black and making it smoke. As a remedy, Qidi has offered replacement SSRs for the affected machines. This option is not acceptable as it requires the consumer to either pay someone else to replace the defective unit or do it themselves. This exposes the consumer to risk of electrical shock if they are not knowledgeable in this type of repair work. Qidi needs to recall and/or replace the affected machines. The SSR in my Plus 4 unit has blackened coils and another part on the SSR shows signs of getting too hot as it appears to be partially melted.
