The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

The product, in the report: Onefinitycnc X50 CNC machine with a redline 2.2 kw air cooled spindle kit sold by onefinitycnc in Canada to the US market.

I have a onefinity cnc manufactured by kilbre enterprises in canada, sold in the US. The CNC machine is an X50 model that has been upgraded with a 2.2kw spindle kit sold by onefinitycnc. It involves the addition of a 220volt vfd drive for the spindle and the spindle itself. This vfd drive that powered the spindle motor does not have a safety estop. I experienced a situation in which the spindle kept running with a 1/2” downcut bit in the collet after the toolpath had completed and the command to stop was issued. There is an estop on another controller in the system but it is not tied to this separate vfd upgrade. No software or hardware estop activation would stop this motor from spinning. I had to remove power from it. The hazard is there is no estop that stops this motor from rotating, in this case, at 18k rpm. It is common to wear hearing protection when operating and if I had not visually observed the tip of the bit rotating when starting to remove a dust boot around the rotating but, I could have easily severed a finger or very badly cut my hand.
