As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  2. No one hurt

Made May 29, 2018, sent to the company Jun 21, 2018, published by CPSC Jul 6, 2018

The product, in the report: Craftsman 1/4 Sheet Pad Sander. Model number 315.116900. 120V 2.0A. Sold by Sears.

Craftsman 1/4 Sheet Pad Sander. Model 315.116900.

I was sanding a drawer front and the motor of the sander “exploded” and broke through front plastic covering of sander. Metal fragments of the motor burst through and were ejected up to four feet from my work space hitting the garage door and floor and the drawer front I was working on.

The sander was kept in the original box and stored properly. I had been using the sander for a small project and it was only in use for less than ten minutes when this happened. I was holding the sander at the time of the incident and it was not hot or did not have any type of smell indicating that it was about to over heat or blow up.

I checked the recall list and did not see any recall notice for this tool.

I have pictures of the sander and pictures of the metal fragments that were ejected.

I was not injured. The fragments that hit the drawer front did leave small nicks in the wood. The other fragments hit a steel garage door and cement floor with no damage.
