Made Oct 7, 2026, sent to the company Oct 13, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 27, 2026

The product, in the report: Kidde 900-CUAR-V combination photoelectric smoke/CO alarm with voice manufactured on February 29, 2024

Kidde 900-CUAR-V combination smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector triggered a false alarm. The unit reported both fire and carbon monoxide. I changed the batteries and the unit went off again. We evacuated the house and the fire department was dispatched. The fire department checked for carbon monoxide and found none. It was a false alarm.

The product, in the report: Hardwired Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detect. with 10-Year Battery Backup Live Chat and Voice Alerts, 30CUA10-V

We purchased 4 Kidde smoke/ CO Alarms 30CUA10-V in May 2025. Three of the four have false alarmed reporting a fire in the middle of the night. We end up taking the alarm down or knocking it down if we cant reach it (we have very high ceilings and dont feel comfortable climbing 15 feet off the ground on a ladder in the middle of the night). Then we go for a long time without a smoke alarm. Kidde replaced on of the alarms free of charge but its obviously a faulty product. Its not a battery chirping, its the alarm going off announcing fire. There is clearly something wrong with the design of these alarms.

The product, in the report: Kidde 10-year Battery and Hardwired Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors, Interconnectable, Model 30CUA10

On June 8, 2026, at approximately 9 p.m., all four Kidde Model 30CUA10 hardwired combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms (manufacturing date March 12, 2025) installed at my residence in [REDACTED] activated simultaneously, emitting continuous alerts. My wife, who was alone in the residence, was unable to silence the units and was forced to physically remove all four from the walls. There was no fire, no smoke, and no carbon monoxide present. On June 12, 2026, a [REDACTED] technician inspected all appliances capable of emitting CO and confirmed no carbon monoxide leak. The four units were purchased on October 15, 2025 at The Home Depot, [REDACTED], Auburn, CA 95603 for $270.15 and were professionally installed and hardwired on October 16, 2025. The simultaneous activation of all four units in the absence of any hazard is consistent with an internal sensor or firmware defect. I am aware of a March 20, 2026 [REDACTED] complaint involving six Kidde Model 30CUA10-V units from a July 19, 2024 manufacturing batch, in which 50% suffered hardware failure with identical false alarm behavior. Kidde acknowledged that defect in its [REDACTED] response. I sent a written demand letter to Kidde at Kidde.Product.Support@carrier.com on June 18, 2026. Kidde failed to respond within the 14-day response deadline stated in my letter, and has not responded at all as of the date of this complaint.

The product, in the report: Kidde 900-CUAR smoke/CO detection system with 5 detectors, manufactured in Feb 2023.

I have a Kidde 900-CUAR smoke/CO detection system in my house comprised of 5 detectors. The Kidde system was manufactured in Feb 2023. Not only did the entire system false alarm at 3:45am this morning - it was sooo loud it was PAINFUL. In fact my ears are still ringing indicating permanent hearing damage. Not to mention how unbelievably dangerous to be so excessively loud that it’s disorientating, if not very disorientating. Why are these fire/smoke/CO detector companies still being allowed to make detectors that sound off so loud they’re disorientating and cause hearing damage?? This is an unbelievably stupid problem that’s been allowed to go on far too long.

I purchased 11 Kidde Smoke/CO detectors from Home Depot in 2022. They have consistently had false alarms 2-3 times per year. These are meant to be Wifi interconnected units to allow me to determine which one is going off. However, the Wifi consistently fails. Right now, seven of the units are not able to connect to Wifi. Two of the units were already replaced by Kidde.

When I called for support, Kidde noted that these units may accumulate dust and then go off accidentally. I have cleaned the units, and these false alarms still happen.

I have attempted to contact Kidde multiple times. The last time was September of 2025. I did not receive a response via email or phone.

The manufacture date of all of the units is in January of 2022 and the issue number on all devices is 0010023.

The most recent false alarm was today.

The product, in the report: Smoke and carbon monoxide alarm

My Kidde smoke and carbon monoxide alarm failed on. It sounded for about 20 minutes and then stopped. About 10 minutes later it sounded again for about 40 minutes and then stopped. After about 10 minutes of silence, it started up again and stayed on. I verified multiple times that there was no smoke or fire in the house. Since I had multiple smoke detectors daisychained, I disabled the batteries first and then one by one I disconnected the smoke detectors from my power supply until I found a failed unit. I verified this by plugging the other units back in with no issue. I took the failed unit and pushed the battery door closed and within 30 seconds it began sounding the alarm. This model number is KN COPE IC with a manufactured date of January 12 of 2023 and installation date of May 27, 2023 est. The battery is a Gold Peak alkaline whats the name Kidde. I checked the battery voltage and it measured 9.51 VDC.O

The product, in the report: Kidde Firex PlugIn Explosive Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector

I purchased a Kidde combination smoke and explosive gas detector from Home Depot in Atlanta a few months ago.

About a month after installing it, I accidentally left my gas on for around 15 minutes. I could clearly smell the gas in my home, but the detector never alarmed. That was really concerning, since this is supposed to be a safety device designed to detect dangerous conditions.

Because of that, I believe the unit may be defective.

I contacted Kidde customer service to explain what happened, but they were not helpful and did not offer any real solution, replacement, or follow-up support. For a company selling life-safety equipment, that was pretty disappointing.

Im filing this complaint because I want this issue taken seriously. At minimum, I would like the unit replaced and an explanation of why it failed to detect anything in this situation.

We installed (as code required) interconnected smoke/CO detectors in our new build (built in 2024)home. The products are Kidde Model 30CUAR and CUACFEX. To date we have had 4 of the units fail (an approximately 50% failure rate) with a mean time between failures of about 2 months. The product, in the report: Kidde 10 year combination Alarm Wire Free Interconnected. Model number P4010DCSCO-W Item number 21028747

On August 26, 2025, I arrived at my office and heard a constant beeping from our Kidde carbon monoxide and smoke alarm, model number P40110DCSC0. There was no fire, and the smoke alarm was stored in its original box without being used. The smoke alarm was stored in an air-conditioned office building. I contacted the manufacturer to report this issue. The smoke alarm was manufactured in July 2019.

The manufacturer informed me that they would not replace the failed smoke alarm because it had not been activated within a year of its manufacture. They also stated that the battery would drain faster when the alarm is in the standby (off) position if not used. According to them, the battery would last longer if the alarm were used, which does not make sense given that these smoke alarms are designed to be interconnected wirelessly to multiple smoke alarms and cannot be recharged.

This is a significant issue for consumers’ safety and a false sense of security, as the battery does not last 10 years, even when in standby mode. The manufacturer offered no replacement or support and placed the blame on the consumer for not turning it on.

Complaint Against: Kiddie (Kidde) Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Nature of Complaint: Product Safety/Failure to Perform

Complaint Details: I am filing this complaint due to a serious safety failure involving several of my Kidde smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Recently, my home filled with smokethe entire downstairs and a large portion of the upstairsyet none of the detectors in my home sounded an alarm.

I trust these devices to protect my familys safety. The failure to activate under such hazardous conditions is unacceptable. If this had been an actual fire rather than smoke, or if we had been sleep, the lack of warning could have resulted in life-threatening consequences.

    Steps Taken:

The detectors were installed correctly and maintained according to the manufacturers instructions.

The situation has raised immediate concern about the reliability of the entire product line in my home.

Desired Resolution: I am urgently requesting that Kidde:

    1. Investigate and explain why these detectors failed to function.

    2. Provide a full remedyeither replacement of the seven defective hard-wired units or an upgraded unit.

    3. Confirm steps being taken to prevent similar product failures for other customers.

Conclusion: The safety of my family depends on these devices functioning properly. I request immediate attention to this matter and a clear path to resolution.

The product, in the report: Kidde 10 year Worry-Free Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm - P4010ACSCO. Hardwired with 10 Year Battery Backup

I installed 5 Kidde P4010ACSCO Combination Smoke/CO Alarms in my parents’ home. Three of the 5 were giving off false alarms on a regular basis, so I returned them to Home Depot for new units. Two of the three replacement units also gave constant false alarms, and my parents had to call the fire department one night and they came and removed the alarm. My father called the Kidde 800 number but there didn’t appear to be any resolution, so I wound up replacing the units with similar units from [REDACTED]. I have had no problems with the [REDACTED] units. Looking at the Home Depot reviews on this unit, there are tons of similar complaints, as well as similar complaints to the CPSC on this site. These units need to be recalled - the constant false alarms cause consumers to remove the alarms which is a safety hazard. I used to be legal counsel for Kidde when they were owned by UTC and am shocked that Kidde has not recalled these already given the volume of reviews complaining about this problem. Additionally, the mechanism to turn the 10-year battery off to be able to dispose of these is awkward and requires brute force with a screw driver and I wound up injuring myself switching them off.

In January 2025, I replaced all six smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in my home with Kidde combination alarms, model 30CUD10-V. It is now late May and three out of the original six have failed, and now one of the replacements that Kidde sent has failed. The units will chirp three times, flash a red light, and announce “smoke sensor error”. Following the directions in the user manual, and per the verbal instructions from their customer support agent, the alarms were cleaned and reset, but will return to error after just a few minutes or sometimes weeks later. After reading reviews on their website, many other people are experiencing the same problem. I’m concerned for the safety of my family and any other consumers that have purchased these combination alarms.

The product, in the report: Kidde Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Hardwired with Smart Features and Voice Alert

I own the Kidde smart smoke alarm, model P4010ACSC-WF, that worked mostly fine for 3 years with occasional connectivity issues. Recently, the smoke alarm connectivity issues had lasted for almost a month, much longer than normal. I attempted to test the smoke alarm only to discover the testing failed, the smoke alarm would not sound at all. I disconnected and reconnected power to the device, which did not resolve the issue - testing still failed to sound the alarm. After being disconnected from power for a full day, the device finally started testing successfully again. I’m less concerned about the connectivity issues and most concerned that the device was malfunctioning and would not sound the alarm. I reported the defective device to Kidde, but Kidde refused to acknowledge this behavior as a problem and even refused to replace the device. It is concerning to think how long this device might have been in a malfunctioning state, not offering any protection to my home and family. The device offered no beep, no chirp to indicating it was malfunctioning.

The product, in the report: Kidde KN-COPE-IC (pinterconnected combination photoelectric smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, 120V AC with 9V battery backup

I have three Kidde KN-COPE-IC (interconnected combination photoelectric smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, 120V AC with 9V battery backup) that were purchased and installed on February 4, 2020. They have a date of manufacture of October 24, 2019 and a date of replacement of February 4, 2030. They all have a Signaling Code of S1816 and an Issue Number of 0010023 on them.

At approximately 3:30PM on January 10, 2025 I was sitting in the second floor of my home and noticed a strong, burning plastic smell. I went to the lower level and opened one of the doors at the bottom of the landing. Flames were visible 1 above the top of my water heater and smoke was banked down at least 1 foot from the ceiling. I yelled for my wife to bring me an extinguisher. She opened the other door at the bottom of the landing, that goes to her office, and the smoke detector in the room she came from sounded.

I extinguished the fire and opened the windows and exterior doors. The fire department arrived soon after and mechanically ventilated the entire house and documented the fire. After we had calmed down somewhat I realized the smoke detector that was 7 feet away horizontally or 8 feet away in a direct line away from the fire source hadn’t sounded or alerted any of the other two interconnected detectors in the house.

The detector on the second floor in the central stairway outside of the bedrooms also hadnt sounded when the lower door was opened. I went to the detector in the room of origin and the green AC light wasnt illuminated. I took the 9V battery out and checked it. It was a fully charged [REDACTED] 522 9v battery with a date of 12/26 on it but the detector still didnt sound an alarm. I removed the detector from its mounting bracket and saw that the power connector was fully seated in the detector prongs. It couldnt be pushed in farther. I removed the power connector from the detector and then reinserted it. There was no corrosion on any of the connections points, male or female. The green AC power light illuminated immediately. I did the exact same process on the upstairs detector with the same results.

The upstairs detector also hadn’t sounded during the fire and it was exposed to more smoke than the detector that did sound in the room on the lower level. The upper level detector also had a 9V [REDACTED] 522 battery with a date of 12/26 on it but that battery was fully depleted. The batteries in all three detectors were changed on daylight savings day, April 10, 2024, with brand new 9V [REDACTED] 522 batteries with dates of 12/26. All three batteries were tested with a voltage meter on November 3, 2024 and were all still fully charged. The detector on the second level obviously drained the backup battery sometime before January 10, 2025 without warning us that the battery was low. We have never been away from home for more than 6 hours in the previous year, since we work from home, so we would have noticed any warning of a low battery. It never alerted us of a low battery.

After reinstalling the second detector I went to each detector and tested them. They all sounded and alerted the other interconnected detectors as designed to. I repeated this process three times with the same results every time. All of us now check the AC power light at least 10 times a day for every detector and look for the illuminated AC power light every time we walk by a detector and every night before we go to sleep. Im sure we will be doing this same thing for the rest of our lives now. If the fire had occurred 8 hours later than it did there most definitely would have been fatalities from this event.

I was a professional firefighter for 29 years and a fire inspector for part of my career. I was more upset with the smoke detectors not functioning than the fire occurring. The fact that the necessary life safety equipment that we have properly installed didnt perform is more concerning than the fire itself. That is the reason I am reporting this issue in the hopes that a tragedy can be averted for anyone else with these detectors properly installed in their homes.

I tried to contact Kidde customer service on January 11, 2025 but they were closed due to a snowstorm the prior day. I contacted them as soon as they opened on January 13, 2025 and told them all of the above. They told me they would be replacing the two detectors that didnt work and I would be receiving them within 2 to 3 weeks minimum.

I received an email from Kidde customer service on January 15, 2025 with a prepaid shipping label telling me to return both of the detectors within 7 to 10 business days. I told them that was insane and I would only return the detectors in question after I had installed the replacement detectors. My other recourse would be to purchase and install a different brand of detectors and then I would be sending these two detectors in question to the CPSC. They immediately emailed me that I could send the detectors back to them them after I had received the replacements.

These things constantly false alarm to where I’m getting 3-4 false alarms (usually between 1-3am) per month. If you review the Kidde home page, you’ll see these things are a 1-star item with false alarms being a constant choice. This many false alarms is not safe.

The product, in the report: The product is a Kidde 900-CUAR, a combination smoke and carbon monoxide detector designed for residential use. It is white in color and features a round, compact design that measures approximately 5-6 inches in diameter. The unit is hardwired with a battery backup and is designed to be installed on a ceiling or wall. It includes a test/reset button and a loud audible alarm to signal smoke or carbon monoxide detection. The purpose of the device is to provide early warning of fire or carbon monoxide hazards to ensure household safety.

I have been having trouble with the Kidde 900-CUAR smoke and carbon monoxide detector since June 2024. The unit frequently goes off at night, with the issue occurring consistently between the hours of 2 AM and 7 AM, causing significant disturbances. I have bought and replaced the batteries multiple times, thinking the batteries were not good, and I have thoroughly cleaned the detector to ensure dust or debris wasnt causing the issue. Despite these efforts, the false alarms persist.

After having to take the unit down, I have relied on the sole bedroom smoke detector, which is a different Kidde model and does not provide carbon monoxide detection. Recently, I needed to replace the battery in the bedroom detector, so I reinstalled the 900-CUAR to ensure some level of safety. However, even with brand-new batteries, the 900-CUAR chirped continuously throughout the day and especially during the night, forcing me to take it down again.

As I write this, I currently have no functional detector in my home, as it is Thanksgiving, and I am waiting for a replacement battery for the other smoke detector to arrive. This leaves my household extremely vulnerable in the event of an emergency.

The product, in the report: Kidde Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector, 10-Year Battery, Interconnect Combination Smoke & CO Alarm, Voice Alert

Smoke detectors with 10 year Lithium batteries intermittent false alarms due Lithium battery Voltage instability. This happened with a few Kiddie Combo Smoke/CO detectors as well as a number of [REDACTED] Sound units. The problem is with the constant falsing many people remove and do not replace the detectors and/or ignore the alarms which can and will lead to unsafe situations and someone getting hurt or worse. This does not appear to be a model or manufacturer specific issue, I firmly belive it is due to the nature of Lithium cells that are unstable and have Voltage flucuations. Even when the detectors are AC powered witht he 10 year Lithium back up battery, I beleive the battery is causing many of the detectors to false on a random basis. This is a BIG issue and need to be investigate. Just search online and you will see thouands of complaints, but many may not realize the problem is likely due to the Lithium batteries.

For more than 1.5 years, my Kiddie alarms have been plagued by incessant and disruptive nuisance alarms. These unwarranted disturbances have tragically impacted my family, especially my vulnerable children. Despite Kiddie’s attempts to rectify the issue by replacing the alarms three times, the nuisance alarms persist without end. It is glaringly obvious that these faulty devices are unfit for the market, as is evident from numerous online reviews lamenting the same problem with this product.

Adding insult to injury, on 10/11 at approximately 3 AM, the nuisance alarm was activated yet again, leading to a harrowing incident where my 7-year-old daughter jolted out of bed, collided with a wall, and tumbled down the stairs, resulting in a distressing head contusion and sprained ankle. This is an abhorrent consequence that highlights the urgent need for these defective alarms to be immediately recalled

The product, in the report: Kidde Photoelectric Smoke/CO Alarm with Voice and Wireless (Model P40 10DCSCO-W)

I would like to report Kidde Smoke/CO Alarm with Voice and Wireless (model P40 10DCSCO-W). We had 7 detectors installed by our electrician around November 2023 after a recent home addition. Ever since installation, we have had near weekly false alarms. I followed instructions for possible interference (bad placement and/or needing to spray with compressed air). Nothing worked. After a week in September 2024 of 2-3 false alarms per day (often at 2am), I finally disabled the the 2-3 devices I though may be offending. Other neighbors have reported issues with these or similar alarms since this style of detector is required by County code as part of any permitted home improvements. Reviews on the Kidde website report similar experiences and 1 star reviews. While I fortunately cannot speak to whether these alarms identify true positives with fires (or CO2), I believe the false alarms create a safety issue by inuring or desensitizing consumers in to thinking alarms are not alerting them to and actual fire/CO2 or other unsafe event.

Within 6 months of installing the detectors in his home, they began giving false alarms.

The consumer contacted the manufacturer to report his concerns. The manufacturer’s recommendation was to clean the detectors, but they did not instruct how they should be cleaned. The consumer saw that a different manufacturer’s brand, recommended to take theirs apart to blow out the smoke chambers. He tried that with the ones he owns and still had the same problem.

The consumer consulted his local fire department and one of the firemen suggested that he vacuum them. He purchased a product that enabled him to vacuum them, but that did not address the problem. Even after vacuuming the detectors, the continued giving false alarms. The frequency of the false alarms varies. Sometimes, a few months will pass before they alarm and in other cases, this can happen every few days.Sometime the detectors will alarm and by the time he reaches the detector, they will cease alarming. However, the issue has become more frequent lately. He spent $650 to purchase 10 of these detectors. He plans to purchase a different brand of detectors for around $1200.

I’ve had two back to back nights of false alarms... but its happening at least once a month randomly. I’ve followed the directions as well on how to clean them from Kiddie doesn’t seem to help. I’ve swapped alarm placement to see if that helps no luck.

Kidde P4010ACS hardwired smoke/carbon monoxide alarms have a high failure rate. Out of the 4 units in my house, three have multiple false alarms. Units manufactured in August of 2022, made in China, and installed 12/2022. False alarms started in summer of 2023 with two units. Both were removed and cleaned with compressed air. Multiple false alarms throughout the winter of 2023 with cleanings after. Third unit started false alarms in the spring of 2024, were cleaned and reset. After several false alarms, the third unit was removed and reset and it false alarmed in my hand indicating smoke was detected. Most instances occurred between 1AM and 3AM. Two of the smoke alarms have been removed and are sitting on my desk leaving the upstairs bedrooms without a smoke alarms. [REDACTED] reviews indicate false smoke alarms are common with this model. Kidde is willing to warranty the units but are sending the same models with known issues. Replacements are going to be 7-10 business days - there is a concern the house is without proper smoke alarms for almost 2 weeks and the replacements are of poor quality.

Alarm felt warm, so I removed again from the ceiling and the unit was very hot by then. Popped out the batteries thinking they were bad out of the package, but 2nd set of new batteries immediately got very hot. Popped out batteries and will not be reinstalling this alarm. I do have another of the same model Kiddie combo smoke carbon monoxide detectors in the house. On Jan 30th, 2024, I was replacing the low battery in my Kidde Combination Smoke/CO Alarm Model KN-COSM-IB when I noticed the manufacturing date 2013, Oct 17. I started researching if it has a lifespan and if it should be replaced. That is when I learned about a safety recall notice - https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2017/Kidde-Recalls-Combination-Smoke-CO-Alarms. I learned from the recall notice that after the end of their life, these alarms are supposed to chirp until they are replaced. I contacted customer service, and they refused to replace these units even though they are faulty and have failed to notify me and my family that they should have been replaced after their end of life. I have two of these units installed in my house, and I was under the wrong impression they were working and saving my life. Even though the manufacturing date is later than what is mentioned in the recall notice, they are the same model with the same issue. Clearly, this company hadn’t stopped making and selling this faulty model even after the dates mentioned in the recall notice, and my two units prove it so. They were supposed to chirp after the end of their life, and they haven’t. I have been replacing the battery whenever there was a chirp for low battery, and they have been quiet after the replacement. It seems even the units made after the date in the recall notice of this model have the same problem. Can something be done about this faulty and dangerous product that fails to notify its owners that it has reached the end of its life and needs replacement? I request you to look into this and help me get them replaced. Thanks...

The product, in the report: 10-yr smoke/CO alarm

Faulty Kidde smoke/CO alarms. I purchased 12 Kidde smoke/CO (10-yr battery) alarms in Aug 2019 for apartments. a few months ago, one of them started to continuously give alarm and would not reset. Tenant got frustrated and destroyed it. A few days ago, ANOTHER alarm started going off. I recovered it and saw it would not turn off. I called Kidde and they said I need to “blow compressed air through the alarms once a year”! I told them this is an unacceptable condition for such an alarm but he downplayed it. I asked for replacements for all of the alarms because I did not want tenants calling me at different times about failed alarms but he said he could only replace the two and I should call them if more fail. I believe this is a safety issue that may be product-wide and might require a recall. My alarm is Kidde Model P3010CU and the date on its back is “2019 Aug.19”

The product, in the report: More than one of my Kiddie wired smoke and carbon monoxide detectors (Model P4010ACSCO-W)

After having several Kiddie wired smoke and carbon monoxide detectors (Model P4010ACS-W) professionally installed costing me a couple of thousand dollars to my 2744 sq ft home less than 6 months ago, I have had half of these alarms randomly go off and on even several times after canceling the alarms to confirm no threat was present. I have had to call the fire department who even they struggled to silence the alarm and only did so after permanently deactivating it. I find this to be a serious threat to my children’s safety and my own. Each one of my household members have sensory processing disorder associated with being autistic, one member has PTSD and other an anxiety disorder. Each time these alarms fault causing my entire household significant distress and scared my 4 year old so bad when the alarm by our stairs went off as we were going up the stairs and she would have fallen down the stairs had I not been behind her to catch her. No physical injuries resulted from any of the 5 occurences that we have experienced with these kiddie alarms. One of the occurrences happened as a result of me blowing of some minor dust from hanging a picture near the device’s alarm.

I believe we are risk and that this product is dangerous because these detectors are marketed to warn it’s consumors when faced with an applicable threat. At this point I have zero confidence in these alarms because if they randomly go off what’s to say that these will be effective

The product, in the report: Kidde 10 Year Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Model P3010CU

Kidde Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms fail reporting false positives at a near 100% rate. I have had at least 5 of these units fail in my house over the past 4 years. These are very expensive units, approx $50 each, and I have at least 5 locations in my home with units installed. These units fail at random, reporting false positive results at complete random times, most recently this morning at 2 am. The only recourse is to permanently disable the unit, following the instructions on the back of the unit, as if this exact event is not only not surprising but expected by the manufacturer. This has resulted in, best case scenario waking up my entire family in the middle of the night hearing a fire alarm, to the more extreme of a full fire department response and searching of the house, wasting time and resources for this garbage, expensive product. Just searching your database, this appears to be a frequent occurrence for this product, despite the company calling it “rare.” I have previously contacted the company about this problem, and they have replaced the units at no cost. However when the products continue to fail, they question the install location, the environmental causes and anything else to deflect responsibility, despite the product apparently working perfectly fine at first. And that leads me to my most important concern, does this product even work at all? I have no way of knowing and absolutely zero confidence that it will report accurate positive warnings when it fails so reliably reporting false positives. Get this garbage product off the market before it kills people. And please spare me the indignity of responding to this complaint with this standard word soup that can be found throughout this database: “It is Kidde’s mission to help protect people and property from fire and its related hazards. We are committed to engineering and manufacturing quality products, which is why all of Kidde’s products meet or exceed the strict third-party standards set by Underwriter’s Laboratories (UL), an independent, not-for-profit testing agency. In the rare occurrence of an incident such as the one reported, we request that the customer supply us with the alarm identified in their report and information regarding the incident. We will then conduct a thorough examination of the alarm in order to identify any potential issue with the alarm and required corrective actions, if any.” Well done corporate lawyer, you’ve really covered the landscape there and accepted zero responsibility. I am done with this manufacturer. I do not trust them or their products. My only recourse now is to find another manufacturer in a consolidated market with few options. My choices are limited and it will be costly, but this manufacturer has proven to be completely untrustworthy.

The product, in the report: Kidde Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm, Model KN-COSM-IBA. I do not see a serial number on these alarms but the do have manufacture dates: 2020, Sept. 28,

On several occasions over the last couple months I have been experiencing multiple false fire alarms and fire alarms chirping. I have replaced batteries in every smoke alarm twice in the last month, cleaned every smoke alarm at least once and some 2 and 3 times but I am still having false alarms and alarms chirping. After reviewing the ratings on the Kidde website for this combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm it appears there is a wide spread issue with what I am experiencing, false alarms and chirping alarms. In the last 2 weeks my family and I have been woken up in the middle of the night with 2 false alarms, i.e. several loud beeps followed by “FIRE, FIRE, FIRE” several times and then repeated and there was not a fire. We have “experienced” 5 times in the last 2 weeks were 1 of 2 different alarms was chirping. Out of the 7 fire alarms I have installed in the house, 2 have triggered false alarms and 2 have been chirping, one of which also triggered a false alarm. It appears that I have at least 3 bad fire alarms out of the 7. After contacting Kidde this morning they said they will provide me with 3 new alarms to replace the ones I have been having issues with. The part that really makes me mad is they said it will take 10 to 15 days or possibly more and when I asked them what I should do until the new alarms arrive I was advised to remove the troublesome alarms by disconnecting them from the house power and remove the batteries. Doing this would remove the ability to possibly detect a fire in these locations with the smoke alarms removed!!! That is if they even work.
