The product, in the report: Google Nest Protect Smoke and carbon monoxide detector. Build date October 2022

I had a Nest Protect smoke and carbon dioxide alarm send me a message to replace the batteries. One of the six batteries was extremely hot and nearly burned me. I dont think this is a battery issue. Ive used [REDACTED] ultimate lithium batteries in my wireless security cameras for years without issues and over a hundred replacement batteries. There are multiple reports of the same issue with other Nest protect users in googles and [REDACTED] forums. Google offers no explanation of the issue but in other posts has offered replacement. I dont feel safe putting this back up without a true explanation of the cause and what they did to prevent it in the future.

The product, in the report: Google Nest Protect, Battery Operated, White

Product is Google Nest Protect. I purchased this product for the feature that it will send a push notification to your phone if the fire, smoke, or carbon monoxide alarm goes off. I have set the alarm off at least 4 times since I have owned it, including once today, over about a year, and have never gotten a push notification. I unfortunately was not aware that I would not receive a notification until an event occurred where I should have been sent a notification. The first couple times it didn’t work I tried to resolve it and make sure it was not user error. I have checked the Google forums, tried all troubleshooting. Google marks these issues as resolved when people clearly state that the issue has never been resolved.

The product, in the report: Google Nest Protect- smoke and carbon monoxide detector

On my NEST Protect (smoke and carbon monoxide detector) it started chirping in the middle of the night like it was low battery, however these devices will warn you via the app or voice announcement on the unit. The concerning part is that when I took it down at 2am the detector was very hot. They contain 6x AA Lithium Ion batteries and were all very hot to the point I pulled them outside in the cold because I was afraid they might explode or start a fire. After researching this, I am finding this is a issue that is being reported a lot. People are afraid to use them because of the fire hazard which these devices are made to warn you of fire/CO2, not cause it!
