  1. No incident, no one hurt

Made Dec 16, 2025, sent to the company Dec 19, 2025, published by CPSC Jan 8, 2026

The product, in the report: Universal Security Instruments Inc. Model AMI1061S, Manufactured 2024DEC02F, ETL Listing 4005095, Single/Multiple Station Smoke & Fire Alarm, Patents D627671 and 7893825, Universal Sensing Plus Multi-Criteria Smoke & Fire Alarm with 120VAC 60HZ, 100 mA Max, 10Yr sealed Battery Backup

A fire alarm manufactured on 12/02/2024 failed. It has a ten year life and no replaceable battery as indicated on device. I contacted the manufacturer and the retailer. I offered to have them send a call tag for review of item in the event this is not a one off situation for further inspection. After repeated calls I could at my expense ship the fire alarm back. This is one of five such devices in our home, this device lasted less than a year and if not found in the event of a fire, would not have alerted the persons in that bedroom. It is ETL Listed to UL-217 Ed.8 so ETL may be interested in reviewing also. Pictures of the device and the ETL listing can be provided.

The product, in the report: Universal “Universal Smoke Sensing Technology” Smoke & Fire Alarm (battery operated)

The Universal Model MDS300S battery Smoke and Fire Detector did not go off tonight when there was extensive smoke coming from a burning item in the microwave. My home security fire alarm eventually went off because it filled the house up with smoke. I have had this detector for over a year and it has performed well to alert me when something is burning / smoking in the kitchen. Tonight it failed to work properly. If I didn’t have a functioning back up wired system there would have been a fire in our home. I noticed on your website that this manufacturer, Universal, has had recalls on a few other of their detectors. This one should also be recalled.

The product, in the report: Smoke and fire alarm

4/1/2022: The product started giving off false alarms and the consumer could not turn it off. She had to disconnect it in order to stop it.

She contacted the dealer and they told her they only provide a 90 day warranty and referred her to the manufacturer.

She called several numbers for the manufacturer, but was not able to speak with a live representative. She did not leave a message with them. She tried a total of 4 different numbers for the firm.

The product has a 10 year battery, so she is not sure if it is part of the issue or not.

The product, in the report: White smoke detector model MI3050S

I have a smoke detector that is not testing properly when button is pushed. I thought it was me all this time and possibly the batteries I was using but I have replaced it a few times and it still will not sound off when I press test button. It looks like it is powered but it will not beep.. I just recently saw that there is an issue with this model of smoke detector and I wanted to let you know in case I am able to get a replacement.. I have had it for a couple of years or so and thought that it was me or a user error when I tested it before. Please let me know what you may need further in case I am able to get it replaced. I no longer can locate the receipt for it but it is a model MI3050S.

The product, in the report: Smoke Alarm

Wired Smoke Detector with constant beeping, running battery down and also giving off false alarms.

The caller states that in the past year and more the battery wired to his home has gone off when he has been home and able to turn it off but that if he was not at home it would cost him money due to police responding to his unit sounding as well fire and rescue.

He states that this problem with his smoke alarm does make him believe that he is not as safe due to not being able to depend on the alarm.

He contacted manufacturer on May 22 or 23, they advised him that he could pay for another alarm or ship this one back for trade at his cost of $15 plus shipping.

He would like CPSC to assist him with receiving a replacement alarm at manufacturer expense.

The product, in the report: AC/DC smoke alarm Universal Security Instruments, Inc. Model: SS795 MFG: 2003AUG01

Smoke alarm has small burn hole in back side of unit. There has been a previous recall on similar units manufactured prior to the unit in question. The previous release number in #00-115. Homeowner smelled smoke in residence due to overheated motor on treadmill. Upon inspection of the smoke alarm in the same room as the treadmill we discovered a small hole melted in the back of the alarm and there is a brown halo around the small hole. Homeowner was advised not to reinstall the alarm but to purchase a new alarm. We also advised them to check the other units in the home for a similar melting issue.
