The product, in the report: Smoke detector system where detectors have a transmitter to communicate with a central Fire Panel. The CPSC describes these detectors as “Supplementary Devices.” The manufacturer is GE Interlogix, and the detectors are model# 560NSR.

When maintenance personnel at an assisted living center changed the batteries in one of the facility’s smoke detectors, the batteries were mistakenly reversed and the detector caught fire. The local fire department reported the incident to the state fire marshal’s office, and the investigator for the state fire marshal’s office forwarded the incident information the CPSC’s Investigator for the region.
