  1. No one hurt

Made Oct 7, 2019, sent to the company Oct 30, 2019, published by CPSC Nov 14, 2019

The product, in the report: Combination Smoke and CO Detector

I am a career fire fighter. Last year our department supplied a large amount of combination smoke alarms to the community. The alarm were First Alert Model PC910. combination Smoke alarm and CO detector. Since then I have had a few residents report that their smoke alarms were activating for no reason and they could not be shut off even when using the deactivate button. I had one of the smoke alarms in my home. Last night at 2am my alarm activated and could not be shut off. This is a definate safety concern that needs to be evaluated for a recall. As now my alarm needs to be replaced and my home is not protected until I am able to replace and install a new detecor.

  2. No one hurt

Made Jul 25, 2015, sent to the company Aug 3, 2015, published by CPSC Aug 17, 2015

The product, in the report: The company is First Alert and the product is their “low profile smoke alarm.” Model P900. Color: White, Length: 4.92” Width: 4.92” Height: .94” Weight: .56lbs. Sensor: Photoelectric

Over the last 3 months we have had multiple activations of our smoke detectors. We have 7 installed throughout our home and 4 of 7 have went “activated” when no problems were present. I am a full-time firefighter so i clean and inspect these detectors regularly. I also change the batteries as directed. I contacted the company and advised them of this problem. They advised me that they were not aware of any problems with the detectors. They sent me 4 replacement detectors. Two days after receiving the replacement detectors, one of the new detectors they sent me activated.

So, we have had 5 of our 7 detectors “actvate” when there was not problems within the home. I have found numerous reviews online on sites such as [REDACTED] where people are reporting the same problem. I have spoke to coworkers who have had this same kind of detector and they had the same problem. I am conserned for my families safety also, because at my fire department we hand out the exact same type of detector to the public and concerned that if the detector is activating they will just disconnect it and not have any detectors.
