Hurt, no treatment Made May 9, 2025, sent to the company May 14, 2025, published by CPSC Jun 5, 2025
The product, in the report: Prepared Hero Emergency Fire Blanket- 4 Pack 40” x 40”
I opened four Prepared Hero fire blankets to look at the size and I was thinking of wrapping some around my fire boxes for extra protection. I started to feel itchy and splintery, so I washed my hands twice. I decided I no longer wanted the blankets because I didn’t like how they irritated my skin, so I spread them out to try to fold them back into the original packaging. After I put them back in the packaging is when I noticed a lot of fiberglass had shed onto my clothing, blanket, book case, etc. I immediately reported this to Amazon and then saw dozens of similar complaints/one-star reviews. I was gifted a Prepared Hero fire blanket about a year ago and had no problems with it.
UPDATED ON 5/12/2025: [I spent hours vacuuming and doing laundry to remedy the shedding Prepared Hero fire blanket. And the picture I attached doesn’t do it justice but I took a video (I just need to use a USB to transfer it since the file is too large to email to myself), which shows the shimmering fiberglass. I should have taken a video of my shirt before I started vacuuming it and putting duct tape on it to try to salvage it.]

The product, in the report: Prepared Hero Emergency Fire Blanket - 1 Pack - Fire Suppression Blanket for Kitchen, 40 x 40 Fire Blanket for Home, Fiberglass Fire Blanket
I was gifted a Prepared Hero Emergency Fire Blanket. I opened it to check the blanket, then folded it and put it back inside. I had pain in my hands all day following. Upon inspection, I had fiberglass particles all embedded in my hands. I see no warning on the Amazon listing or on the package.

The product, in the report: “Emergency Fire Blanket” White blanket, red velcro pouch
I (40year old female) attempted to use a Prepared Hero brand fire blanket to put out a small kitchen fire, and ended up with fiberglass splinters in both my hands. I used as directed, simply pulled it out of the bag and attempted to cover the fire with it.

First aid Made Feb 11, 2024, sent to the company Feb 14, 2024, published by CPSC Mar 7, 2024
The product, in the report: Prepared Hero Emergency Fire Blanket is a blanket that you pull from its little pouch and throw over an active fire. The pouch is red and the blanket itself is white. The product is made of fiberglass per their Amazon website and its supposed to be usable on people and pets and everything, but I barely touched it.
I got the Prepared Hero Fire Blanket as a gift. Jokingly, I pulled it out of its bag to place over a candle on the table, after I got it back in I realized that my hand was full of fiberglass.

Emergency room Made Aug 14, 2023, sent to the company Aug 17, 2023, published by CPSC Sep 8, 2023
The product, in the report: The product is the fire blanket made by Prepared Hero. They have two versions of the blanket, a standard version, which is the one I got as a gift, and the “Hero FIre Blanket”. The difference between the two is the standard one only has 1 coating of silicone, which is done to prevent loose fiberglass from coming off the blanket. The Hero Fire Blanket has 2 coatings of silicone, to “Further Prevent Loose FIberglass” in the words of the company on their website. The purpose of the fire blankets is to offer an alternative to fire extinguishers. You throw the blanket onto a fire and it puts the fire out. They come in a red bag with a black pull tab hanging out and they recommend keeping it in the kitchen for quick access.
My mom got me a fire blanket from Prepared Hero. The blanket is a woven fiberglass matt. It was in the back of my work truck, I never opened it or anything like that and it was shedding fibers of glass that embedded themselves deep into my hands. This started happening right after Christmas, and it took me 3 months to figure out where it was coming from because the glass fibers are basically invisible and I never suspected the fire blanket to be the culprit. The company has no warning label of any kind on the product, and they make it seem like its perfectly safe to have it out of its bag. There’s a picture of a person who uses theirs as a floor mat under the grill to protect the deck from embers. This is an insane thing to do. The glass fibers drove me to near insanity as I had no idea where they were coming from and long fibers of several inches buried themselves in my hands by the thousands, or so it feels. And they don’t come out of the skin. I’ve been to several doctors because of this. My hand got infected with MRSA. It’s now august 13, so its almost been 8 months, and my hand still bothers me every day. The reason this is so frustrating is the fact that the company not only fails to mention the danger which they are well aware of based on some digging I did, but they actually actively hide it from customers. Had I known the blanket was the source I would have fixed the problem immediadtely rather than getting hammered by it day in and day out for 3 months. My hand is in a crazy state right now. I will likely never be able to use it properly again. And the glass causes chronic inflammation which can lead to cancer, so I do worry that this company is going kill me.
I think they need to be forced to put a warning on their product that says, “this product is made of glass fibers which shed off of it, are invisible, and can penetrate flesh deeper than skin layers. The glass is coated in silicone which is notoriously resistant to adhesion or dissolving. It will be impossible to remove from the flesh once inside and it will be excruciating pain”
Something like that would be good.
