  1. No one hurt

Made Apr 9, 2026, sent to the company Apr 24, 2026, published by CPSC May 8, 2026

The product, in the report: Kinetico K5 Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Station with VOC Guard Kinetico Designer Series Faucet, Satin Nickel Finish, Part 12770

The following Kinetico Water systems were professionally installed by the local Kinetico dealership on 12-11-2025 - Kinetico Premier Water Softener Q850 OD XP, Brine Drum ASY 16 x 20, Kinetico K5 Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Station with VOC Guard, Kinetico Designer Series Faucet, Satin Nickel Finish, Part 12770, Mineral Plus Cartridge for the RO system.

My independent water testing through [REDACTED] confirms that the Kinetico Designer Series Faucet, Part 12770, used in the K5 reverse osmosis system is leaching lead and copper into purified drinking water. Despite Kinetico explicit claims of providing a lead-free tap that ensures lead won’t be added into your drinking water, per their marketing and user guide information, and declared compliance with NSF ANSI 61 and NSF ANSI 372, my testing shows lead levels increasing by as much as 11.3 times the baseline municipal supply after passing through this hardware. This was confirmed during first draw water testing, which is the standard way of testing for leaching metals.

The local Kinetico dealer/installer was notified of my initial findings on 01-07-2026. I have been told multiple times by the local Kinetico contact that there is an investigation ongoing. Their corporate office has not called me directly even after requesting this through the local dealership on multiple occasions. It was not until April 6, 2026, when I received a letter from Kinetico which is included in this filing. In that letter, they claim compliance yet admit compliance only after the first draw. It is the water testing standard for leaching metals to take it on the first draw and thus they are essentially admitting that they are only in compliance if you throw out that first sample. They will also not provide alternative explanations to multiple data points suggesting lead leaching from their faucet. I have spent more than a thousand dollars on water testing to provide these results to Kinetico. The attached information will show ample evidence of my conclusions. They are unwilling to discuss on the phone, and are not responding to any of my emails after official letter they sent on April 6th.

The product was being used by myself and my household members for all primary drinking and cooking water needs. The system was used as intended as a point-of-use purification tap for daily consumption. Water was regularly drawn from the faucet after sitting stagnant, such as first thing in the morning, which is when my laboratory testing confirmed the highest levels of lead leaching.

With such leaching, there is a potential for chronic, low-level lead poisoning. Lead is a cumulative neurotoxin with no safe level of exposure. Furthermore, Kinetico declares lead-free water in their reverse osmosis systems. Ironically, it seems those systems are introducing it which is very concerning with the thousands of customers out there that may be drinking lead contaminated water from a system that claims to be lead-free, part of the very reason people purchase these systems in the first place.
