No one hurt Made Oct 27, 2023, sent to the company Nov 1, 2023, published by CPSC Nov 16, 2023
The product, in the report: Hot Spring hot tub model Flair color Tuscan and Espresso dimensions 7’x7’x30” deep
My wife and I purchased a Hot Tub from Regina pools and spa’s in Timonium MD on 7/25/23’ for $14,782. We received the hot tub on 10/06/23’ and was assembled by service tech’s from Regina. The electrical work was preformed at the time of delivery, by [REDACTED] a sub contractor recommended by Regina. Who we paid separately $2150.00 at the time of the installation. 10/16/23’ the Hot Tub tripped the 30amp GFCI circuit breaker in the sub panel installed by [REDACTED]. I reset the GFCI breaker two times and the breaker continued to trip. I notified [REDACTED] that night by text and they responded by phone the following morning 10/17/23’ stating that it was a spa issue not a GFCI Breaker issue and to contact Regina Pools and Spa’s. I contacted Regina they had me perform troubleshooting to the Spa to help resolve the issue which it didn’t the GFCI breaker continued to trip. 10/19/23’ a service rep from Regina came to our home to try to resolve the issue. He tried to have the breaker trip while he was here and he couldn’t get the breaker to trip. He stated that he would have to see the breaker trip in order to diagnose the issue. The service rep told me to continue using the spa which we did. Shortly after the Regina service tech left the breaker tripped again. 10/20/23’ I reported the breaker issue again to Regina and the rep said they would have a service tech out on 10/23/23’ ,and to leave the spa off. 10/23/23’ Regina service rep, arrived and began to try to diagnose the issue with the spa again. He could not get the breaker to trip again, and stated once again that, without seeing the breaker tripped, he could not begin to make any repairs. I noticed their service rep never had a meter to measure voltage with him either time he was here. I have a little electrical knowledge and the fact he never used a voltage meter raised some concerns. Again later that evening after their service rep left, we ran the hot tub . This time I had my cell phone with me and recorded video of the hot tub tripping the breaker multiple times that evening. 10/24/23 The owner of Regina pools and spa’s called me to tell me that he had spoken with the manufacture of the hot tub. Watkins wellness manufacturing and determined that it was more than likely a faulty GFCI breaker, and that he was going to send a service rep back out the following morning to replace the breaker. 10/24/23’ the same service rep that had been here two times before came again this time to replace the 30 amp GFCI breaker in the subpanel. After he completed swapping out the breaker, he told me to run the spa and let them know if there are any further issues. Later that afternoon, after running the spa, the breaker tripped again. I called and notified the owner of Regina pools and spas, and made him aware of the situation and that I was not happy and I did not have confidence that his service techs could resolve this issue and wanted a full refund for the amount of the hot tub. Later that evening a representative from Watkins Manufacturing called and stated their policies under warranty issues. Watkins mmfg does not do buy backs /refund money to the consumer, or swap out defective product for new. Essentially I was stuck with the spa that we bought and had to use Regina pools and spas to resolve this issue. I mentioned to the Watkins manufacturing representative that I didn’t feel that this was so much a warranty issue as it is a safety issue. Again she stated the company’s policy and what my option was. Contact Regina and have them fix it, and that ended the conversation.
