The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Sep 29, 2016, sent to the company Oct 7, 2016, published by CPSC Oct 24, 2016

The product, in the report: California Cooperage Hot Tub, Model 280, 400 gallons, using electronic controls by Powerworks.

On two occasions, my hot tub heated to a temperature of 140 degrees F. This occurred while my 4 year-old-granddaughter was visiting. Had she jumped in, it likely would have resulted in death or severe burns. The hot tub is manufactured by California Cooperage, Model 280, and uses electronic controls for the two pumps and the heater. Obviously, the over-temperature protection controls do not operate in a fail-safe condition to limit the maximum temperature to 108 degrees F as stated in the hot tub manual. After unplugging the hot tub and allowing it to cool to below 108 degrees F, the system appears to function normally again.

I consider this product to be an extreme safety hazard that should be recalled and modified to operate in a fail-safe condition, whereby the heaters and pumps shut down when the temperature exceeds 108 degrees F.
