  1. No one hurt

Made Nov 16, 2024, sent to the company Nov 29, 2024, published by CPSC Dec 13, 2024

The product, in the report: ABB GE Midwest Spa Disconnect 50 Amp 240-Volt Non-Fuse Metallic Spa Panel Disconnect with GFI

After around 22 years of using a Midwest Spa Disconnect, the GE GFCI breaker safely failed - it got stuck in the middle position and did not pass 240V after failing.

I then purchased a Spa Disconnect from Midwest which was owned by GE on 8/12/2022. This unit had a Siemans GFCI breaker, not a GE breaker. Within 2 year the the Siemen’s breaker failed in a dangerous manner because it failed to protect users of the hottub from electrocution. When the Siemans breaker fails a light blinks yet the device continues to pass 240V to the hottub yet provides no short circuit protection and the blinking light is not visible to spa users because it is behind a closed panel to keep it from getting wet. When the Siemans breaker fails it should turn off like the original Midwest spa disconnects with the GE GFCI breaker..

After I discovered the Midwest Spa Disconnect I purchased from suppliesdepot.com on 8/12/2022 failed to protect users in the hottub, I purchased another Spa Disconnect though Home Depot on October 14, 2024 that was from ABB now parent company of GE expecting a GE GFCI breaker but it arrived with another Siemans breaker. Home Depot showed the Midwest duck logo on the box but the unit I received didn’t have this.

ABB/GE is putting dangerous Siemans GFCI breakers in their Spa Disconnect products and apparently has a fraudulent inspection label on the unit purchased because it is a GE inspection label. My understanding is Siemans GFCI breakers and not manufactured by GE.

The Siemans GFCI breaker failed sometime between 8/12/2022 and 10/14/2024.

This complaint is against ABB and Siemans.

A month ago on 10/14/2024 I sent this message to Siemans and they have not responded to my concerns. By ignoring this complaint I believe Siemans is acting with intent to endanger the general public for financial gain:

    Hello,

I purchased a Midwest Spa Disconnect model is UG412RMW250 2P50A Wallplate GFCI 118756. It has a Siemens GFCI breaker that has failed early the light is blinking to replace it. This was purchased from SuppliesDepot.com Order #[REDACTED] ordered 08/12/2022 and shipped 08/12/2022 via [REDACTED]. Such fast failure of Siemen’s breakers both endangers my family and the general public.

The Midwest unit is likely out of warranty however these breakers typically have a 10 year warranty please send a working non-defective replacement and instructions on replacement in the Midwest product. The breaker has a label SIEMENS Type QPF Class A 40 degrees C Interrupting Rathing Max. RMS Sym. Amps 10kA RMS 120/240V (ac symbol) 60Hz UL Listed Cir. Bkr. & Gnd. Fault Circuit Interrupter 2 Pole Unit ISSUE NO. 0119952 E82617

The breaker is behind a panel and hs both endangers my family and the general public.
