No incident, no one hurt Made Jul 21, 2026, sent to the company Jul 23, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 6, 2026
The product, in the report: Noble House GDF Studio Cub Brown Wood Frame Queen Size Murphy Bed with Rattan Decoration and Storage Drawer, Walnut finish. This is a fold down wall bed unit housed inside a wood cabinet, designed to fold up into the cabinet for storage when not in use and fold down into a queen size bed frame when needed. The unit includes rattan decorative paneling on the exterior and a built-in storage drawer. Purchased online through The Home Depot delivered April 12, 2026. Home Depot order and model reference internet number [REDACTED] associated with order number [REDACTED].
A Murphy bed for a guest bedroom developed a manufacturing defect in the wood components after normal use. The bed was professionally assembled and used only twice by normal sized adult guests before the wood slats and boards inside the cabinet mechanism began to split and splinter. On a subsequent use, the wood inside the cabinet broke apart while the bed was being closed, causing the unit to become stuck. Because guests needed a place to sleep that night, the bed had to be forced closed and secured shut with industrial tape, as it could not be safely opened or closed due to the broken and splintered wood. The unit remains taped shut because attempting to open it risks further breakage or injury from the damaged wood pieces, and there is concern it could not be closed again safely if reopened. No injury has occurred so far, but there is a risk of injury from splintered wood and from the bed mechanism itself, given that it can no longer be safely opened or closed as designed. The manufacturer is Noble House Home Furnishings, doing business as GDF Studio and they were contacted by email and confirmed by email the item is defective based on photos attached, but stated they are unable to send a replacement part or unit due to shipping-damage risk on an item of this size, and directed the report back to the retailer Home Depot for a refund. However, Home Depot has declined to process since the standard return window had passed.
