The product, in the report: Bertini Full Size Metal Bed Conversion Kit that transforms Bertini convertible crib into full size bed.

We converted our toddler’s crib into a full size bed using a conversion kit made by the same manufacturer of the crib (Bertini/Dorel Living). During the middle of the night, our son rolled into the space between the footboard and the standard full-size mattress. Our son’s head got trapped in this space and he was found in the morning, severely injured and barely conscious. He was rushed to the hospital, and later admitted to ICU. The emergency room doctor concluded the injuries he sustained were due to the trauma caused by the compression of his head in between the footboard and mattress/box spring. His swelling, due to the compression, became so severe that he was intubated for concern that the swelling would cause his airway to be constricted. Doctors told us that had we found him later, or if his head had been turned the other way, he would have most likely suffocated and died.

Main concern with this product is when conversion of the crib with kit to a full size bed results in a gap between the footboard and mattress/box spring that is unsafe for children and can result in a child getting stuck in between, causing serious injury or even death.
