The product, in the report: Leather Sofa from Value City Furniture, Cleveland OH. Model Madrid black 2 piece sectional Retailer mentioned it was manufactured in USA but the sofa has a label underneath that says Made in CHina

We bought a leather sofa from Value City Furniture in Cleveland Ohio (model name Madrid black 2 piece sectional) about three months ago. Ever since we had this sofa both me and my wife started getting very itchy skin rashes all over our body. The rashes appeared mainly on parts of our body that would have contact with the sofa. It also started getting more frequent with the summer months with hot weather. We now have marks all over our arms, back and legs.

We weren’t sure what caused this in the beginning and also pest control to have our apartment checked. They found nothing in our apartment.

Finally, I started researching over the internet and found that leather sofas imported from China (which this sofa was) are shipped with anti-fungal agent called DMF which evaporates to the surface during use and causes skin reactions. These products were apparently banned in the European Union since 2009. I was wondering if these products have been reviewed in the US.

Looking back last three months, all the events with our rashes were too coincidental not to be due to the leather sofa. Both me and my wife had the skin reaction right after we got the leather sofa. The frequency increased with warm weather in summer. The rashes are mild in the morning after we come out of bed, stays the same during the afternoon when we are at work and gets worse in the evening when we are back on the sofa watching TV.
