Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. Hurt, no treatment

Made Jul 7, 2011, published by CPSC Jul 29, 2011

The product, in the report: leather chesterfield sofa, manufactured by SpectraHome in China

Purchased a leather chesterfield sofa, manufactured by SpectraHome in China. It was delivered on June 13, 2011.

There is a strong chemical smell coming from this sofa which permeates the air in my home. When I sit on this sofa, my pulse rate increases immediately. When my clothing or any fabric comes in contact with this sofa, the odor is transferred to the fabric.

I wiped the entire sofa (including all 3 cushions) with a damp cloth (water) to remove any residue, flipped it over and vacuumed the fabric underside to remove any particles, left a HEPA air filtration unit on 24/7, and have the windows open as often as possible to air out the room.

Today is July 7, 2011. Three and a half weeks after this sofa was delivered and the dark, musty, heavy chemical smell is still prevalent throughout my home, the odor still transfers to fabrics, and my pulse rate still becomes elevated if I sit on the sofa.
