Emergency room Made Jun 5, 2019, sent to the company Jul 18, 2019, published by CPSC Aug 1, 2019
The product, in the report: Sofa and lack of fire retardant Private labeler name: Imported fabric (Republic?) (China? or India?) Manufacturer address: 604 Pontotoc County Industrial Pkwy Ecru, MS 38841
This consumer is reporting unsafe fabric on a sofa after she broke out in burns and large dark Keloid scars on her feet. Around the end of Feb 2019 a candle fell over on a metal tray, she went to put the candle out but somehow her sofa caught fire and she states that the material on the sofa melted then turned into plastic which then dripped onto her foot The caller went to Elwood Emergency/St Vincent Mercy Hospital where they diagnosed her with second degree burns on both feet but who she said did not treat her correctly which caused her feet to become infected so she went to Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, Indiana where she is aware that they have a burn center and this emergency room diagnosed third degree burns with some areas at second degree burns. The medical professionals there have applied a process called Debride which is a painful scraping of the burned skin off to allow new skin to grow. She is reporting the sofa as an extreme hazard because she states that there is no fire retentive on it which is why she believes that it burned so badly and so quickly which she describes as less than five minutes for the sofa to melt and burn completely. She will be submitting pictures. She has contacted the manufacturer who absolve themselves of all responsibility.
