  1. Hurt, no treatment

Made Apr 3, 2021, sent to the company Apr 9, 2021, published by CPSC Apr 23, 2021

The product, in the report: Costco Sawyer Leather Power Reclining Sofa Costco Item# 2001065. Top Grain Leather on All Seating Areas and Arms Rests with Leather Match on Sides and Back 2 Power Recline Seats and 2 Power Adjustable Headrests 2 USB ports Contrast stitching 85? L x 41? W x 41? H Model Sawyer - 2001065

1st incident: Plugged a usb to lightning cable into my couch’s built-in USB port and then plugged the lightning cable into my [REDACTED]. There was a spark between lightning cable end and [REDACTED] charging port. Disconnected and cable no longer works. That [REDACTED] can no longer charge or communicate via a cable. 2nd incident: New usb to lightning cable (assumed first cable was bad) so purchased new MFI certified cables. Brand new [REDACTED] (had to buy a new [REDACTED] due to 1st incident). Plugged in new cable and then connected to new [REDACTED] Immediately smoke and sparks started spewing out of port and I unplugged cable. Case and lightning plug plastic melted. Greatly concerned about fire and shock hazard. New [REDACTED] electronics completely destroyed. Would not power on. Had to be replaced.

Next steps I took: Covered USB outlet with black electrical tape so no one else would use it. I purchased a USB outlet tester. Plugged into that usb outlet on sofa and it reads 29.2 Volts. That is almost 6X where it should be!! Outlet on other side of sofa reads where it should, 5.08V.
