On Sunday August 25th 2013 around 6pm, my daughter was injured by a couch manufactured by Franklin Furniture. She was simply sitting in the middle section of the couch, and there was an adult on the recliner with it fully reclined. My daughter, [REDACTED] who was 8 years old at the time (birthday [REDACTED]) was moving to sit with the adult who was in the recliner. All of a sudden she started screaming and when we looked there was about a 5 inch long, 1/2 inch wide gash in her leg. We took her to the ER (St Lukes in The Woodlands) where she had to have 15 stitches. Upon investigation of where the accident occurred we found that when the couch is fully reclined there is a large gap from the bottom cushion and the back cushion, in this open space between the reclining seat and the stationary middle section of the couch is a metal bracket that is obviously very dangerous. I can provide pictures of the gash, along with the space in the couch, and another up close picture showing a piece of her skin still stuck to the cushion. I spoke to at Franklin Furniture that stated accidents have happened before. I want to make sure that this couch is recalled as it is very dangerous. No one for any reason should have to get 15 stitches from sitting on a couch.

I ask that this couch be recalled as it is still to this day being sold in Conn’s store even after submitting an email much like this one to Franklin Furniture and speaking to Conn’s directly several times. This accident has caused my daughter to have a scar for the rest of her life over sitting on a couch. Couches are supposed to be the comfortable spot in your home to relax and enjoy family time, not a dangerous hazard. I keep thinking, we are fortunate it was her lower leg, and not her face.
