The product, in the report: Lockwood 6-piece sectional from Living Spaces, color light brown or Mocha. https://www.livingspaces.com/pdp-lockwood-6-piece-power-reclining-sectional-w2-armless-chairs-99482

My name is [REDACTED] and we bought a Lockwood sectional from the San Leandro, CA Living Spaces store in July 2016.

Since then we had several accidents and injuries from the sofa. Between two pieces, there seems to be a sharp piece that has cut my finger several times and one of our dogs’ feet slipped down between the pieces and something caused extreme bleeding, multiple vet visits and surgery, accumulating a bill of over $2,000. We have gotten rid of two pieces of the sectional a few months ago to make it a straight sofa, but it doesn’t help. Our furniture usually last 15-20 years because we take very good care of everything that we have and even after all those years they look almost like new. We have never had furniture before that was hazardous in any way and never had any accidents. New furniture however is so much lower in quality, so we have to buy new sets every few years, but not because it was injuring us. We think that this should be a recall. We would not purchase this sofa/sectional again. There are large bolts connecting the pieces and the bolts loosen over time letting the separate pieces opening up and come apart causing gaps where people and pets can get stuck. It’s impossible to guard the furniture 24/7 but we have taped off some of the sharp edges and ends that caused the injuries. However we found some more after more accidents happened, which are the screws or bolts on the bottom of the sofa, where feet and paws easily slip in and get cut. The threading on the furniture started coming apart after a few months of purchase, even though we cover everything. Now, we have to cover the sofa all around and make sure that we can’t reach parts that are sharp. Another problem is, that the reclining chairs are connected with the handles hidden between pieces and it’s very hard to reach them and pull them. Every time I do this I bruise the top of my hand. Now I try not using it as much. My hand has been hurting for a very long time now. There’s a wooden piece across, that’s in the way to reach the lever and when I pull my hand up it gets caught on the edge of the wood.

I have been in contact with Living Spaces via email but they are not willing to do anything for us. They keep saying that the manufacturer warranty expired on July 4, 2017. However, this is not a warranty issue. We feel it should be a recall and it shouldn’t be sold like that.

We spent over a couple thousand dollars on it, less than two years ago, and now we have to just throw it out piece by piece.

My husband keeps taping the VERY sharp part that was not smoothed down by the factory and we have to keep fixing and/or replacing big bolts that connect the pieces because they come apart.

I would be very grateful if you could do something for us.

Your time, help and kindness is greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely, [REDACTED]
