The product, in the report: Lazy Boy motorized couch with “Home” button on remote control which is stored on the outside of the couch

Recently bought Lazy boy couch with motorized seats. This couch has a “home” button and when pushed the motorized seat goes back to the original position. This function has no ability to stop this motion in case there is a child or pet underneath the seat. So if I’m in the seat and push the “Home” button and there happens to be an animal or a child underneath my raised footrest the footrest will come down and crush or cut in half that child or animal. This event has not happened to us since we just got the new couch on Jan 16 2026 but this could be a horrible accident just waiting to happen.

UPDATED ON 2/4/2026: [This report is about a LazyBoy power reclining sofa that has a “Home” button on the remote and the sofa’s remote cradle. There is no locking feature on either. This is an automatic feature that brings the sofa back down to its original position. A child or an animal can certainly get caught under the foot rest and crushed. ]

The product, in the report: Lazy-Boy Sectional, James Series

We have a Lazy-Boy Sectional, James Series, in which the center console has a drawer with a metal pull. I am 80 years old and I merely brushed against the metal pull and received a 1 and 1/2 inch long gash in my right leg about mid-point between my knee and ankle. The gash is about 3/16 inch wide and was deep enough to cause sever bleeding. The metal tab needs to be replaced with a round pull to prevent this type of accident again. I do have a picture of the wound if you need it.

I bought Lazyboy loveseats. The chemical odor was so strong I had a headache for weeks, then burning, itching skin, and my Respiratory system was burning. Turns out they import from China where DmF is used. This is know as toxic sofa in the EU. We should not be exposed to these chemicals.

The product, in the report: New couch from Lazy boy

I bought a couch from Laz-Boy that was delivered this past Saturday. The initial problem was the color was grey and not chocolate brown. I did notice a chemical new couch odor coming from it on delivery but did not realize the extent until I woke up the next morning with a severe headache and then half way down the stairs the couch odor was noticeably overpowering. The couch is in a closed environment and has taken over my 1200 sq ft home including the closets upstairs. I do not have an area to remove the couch to and it is currently in my living room covered with two sheets and two blankets trying to minimize the effects of the chemical odor it is emitting and it is still overpowering. I currently have daily headaches, my eyes and nose sting and have been noticing increasing shortness of breath going up the stairs the last three days. I am limiting my time downstairs where the new couch is and currently staying in a bedroom with the door closed. I have ceiling fans on downstairs and upstairs, I have the AC fan running continuously trying and force the odor out of my place. It is summer time so it is hard to leave the doors open but I have been waking up early in morning with headaches and leaving the front door open but it has to be closed all other times. I have been working with Laz-boy to get the couch out of here asap due to the overpowering odor. It was scheduled for Wednesday pick up but that fell through the cracks and is now scheduled for this Tuesday pick up. I question if that is going to happen. I am very concerned about the current and future toxic effects of this overpowering odor being emitted from the Laz-boy couch. I requested quality control to visit my home to help them understand this issue but they were not interested and I was told that the delivery/pick up crew with do the evaluation. I am having health issues from the odor being emitted from this couch and I believe that this should not be happening to me (or anyone else) just because I bought a new couch.

The product, in the report: La-Z-Boy 44p/440/740 power/chaise full reclining sofa leather

We purchased a Barrett PowerRecline La-Z-Time Full Reclining Sofa in August 2016. We had to buy it from a catalog, as there were none in the store. The salesman had us sit in a similar one and stated it would be the same. It is extremely hard to get out of and one needs to push with their hand, which slides down in the back of the cushion. In doing so your hand comes in contact with sharp edged wood, (has cut me several times). The design, while sitting in a normal manor is such that you can reach down in the back of the seat cushion and come in contact with moving metal levers. This is a danger to children as well as adults searching for dropped items, keys, toys, or anything lost while reclining. (Very easy to be pinched between wood and metal moving parts resulting in possible loss of finger), The front under the footrest is wide open to any thing that can walk or crawl into it. There is a thin piece of fabric just hanging in front. All the moving leavers are exposed in there just waiting for a child, dog or cat to crawl in and become mangled. I have complained to La-Z-Boy and they basically say, “Read the manual” and gave me a canned reply. Having been an engineer and designed much more complicated products than this, it is an accident waiting to happen. Note: photos would not upload even with flash installed.

The product, in the report: Laz Boy Tribeca Couch and 3 accent pillows

I purchased a sofa from LazBoy Furniture Gallery in San Diego Ca. 92108 with Ulta Shield Fabric Protection applied at the warehouse. It was delivered on 12/15/16. On 12/17/2016 I called and talked with [REDACTED] at the San Diego store and notified her of the strong chemical smell causing skin irritation, sinus reactions; tighten of the chest, headaches, and dizziness. I was told to give it some time as it would dissipate. I was leaving out of town the next day and returning on the 26th. Upon my return my house reeked with the chemical smell and I had to keep the doors and whole house fan on in order to attempt to clear the air. l immediately called the store 12/27 and talked with [REDACTED] again .She would call back and inform me what could be done. On 12/28/16 I called Ultra Shield and wanted to know what the chemicals in the product where and where the warehouse was. I was told by [REDACTED] that information would be delivered to the store. On 12/28/16 [REDACTED] the designer came to my house to check the concern and knowledge the chemical smell and after sitting on the couch for 5 mins. Felt a headache coming on and said she would report this and let me know what could be done. Later that day [REDACTED] called back to tell me that [REDACTED] would check to see what could be done. i told her that I wanted the couch picked up !On 12/28/2016 I called Laz Boy Comfort Care and reported the continued health problems for me and others in my home and was told a representative would get back to me in 2 days-12/30/16. The next day 12/29/16 I called Comfort Care again and talked with [REDACTED] and once again reported my concerns and urgency about removing this toxic couch from my house. He assured me a rep. would call me the first thing in the morning of 12/30/2016. No call! AII symptoms persist

The product, in the report: Rowan Sofa and Loveseat, Reclinaway, Peacock blue fabric

We bought a sofa and matching Love Seat La-z-Boy Greensboro outlet in January 2016.I think it’s called the Rowan ReclinaWay in Peacock Fabric.

It was delivered to us on February 9, 2016, before Valentines Day. Shortly after Valentines Day I developed a severe itchy rash all over my arms and legs. It gets worse every time I sit on the sofa or loveseat. The itching is severe and the rash looks like chicken pox or poison ivy.

I have been taking [REDACTED] and using [REDACTED] like crazy for about 6 weeks now. I went online and discovered there have been several complaints about a chemical LazyBoy uses to treat the fabric of their sofas to prevent mold and it is causing “sofa dermatitis” in susceptible individuals and obviously I am one of those individuals. I also read an article on www.webmd.com about people developing “sofa dermatitis” and it is coming from chemicals used in the fabric. I went to the Urgent Care Center the Saturday after Valentine’s Day because the itching was so severe. He said he had never seen a rash that followed dermatones only on both legs and both arms. The only thing he could tell me was it wasn’t scabies, shingles or Lyme Disease or Tick Fever. He told me to follow up with a dermatologist if it didn’t go away and prescribed a low dose [REDACTED] cream that I could only use for one week. Now it’s the end of March and I’m still breaking out.

I have an appointment with a dermatologist. I’m bringing him a copy of the complaints I’ve read online and having a test done to see if I’m allergic to the material. We were told by the salesperson that all LazyBoy furniture is manufactured in the USA, however I read that the chemical DMF they are using to prevent mold is made in China. I would like a listing of all the chemicals and materials used in the Rowan models in the covers and the polyfill as well ASAP, except I’ve had no luck locating a contact number for any manufacturing plant for La-z-boy.

If I find out from my doctor that LazyBoy furniture is causing this rash, I am going to report this to the Consumer Protection agency, a lawyer, and News2 Wants to Know. I think people need to be aware that made in the USA does not mean 100% made in the USA. I have had no luck being able to locate contact information on where they manufacture their furniture. The only links to LaZBoy bring you to the store where you purchased the furniture.

I doubt the sales people or store managers know every chemical used in the product. This has run up a doctor bill for me. I’ve spent a lot of money on antihistamines, topical creams and now two doctors.

The product, in the report: LA-Z Boy sofa & 2 Coleman chairs

Please be aware that sofas containing a chemical called DMF (dimethly fumarate, also known as fumaric acid) is causing severe problems in Europe and USA.

The BBC News in the United Kingdom has been reporting that more than 1,600 people have suffered skin rashes and chemical burns from their new Chinese-made leather sofas. Reports say that one person has died.

After investigation, it was found that the couches were packed with sachets containing dimethly fumarate (DMF), an antifungal agent intended to prevent the leather from getting moldy during storage and shipment from China. The chemical evaporates, penetrating the leather and can transfer to clothing and skin. Even small levels of exposure can cause serious skin sores, blisters, rashes and eye irritation. And some victims have reported that their problems have persisted long after the couch has been put on the curb.

Doctors say a chemical added into furniture shipments from China to prevent the growth of mold has been linked to severe rashes.

The chemical, dimethylfumate (DMF), can penetrate the fabric and subsequently clothing when a person sits on the furniture, says [REDACTED]., MD, clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Louisville, Kentucky.

DMF is also used in the shipping of some clothing and shoes, [REDACTED] says. And some people are very allergic to the preservative, he tells WebMD.

When they come into contact with DMF, susceptible individuals develop contact dermatitis, a rash that can occur anywhere on the body. Irritated skin becomes dry and chapped and eventually red, scaly, and inflamed.

At the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology, [REDACTED] described what he called “an epidemic of Chinese sofa and chair dermatitis.”

[REDACTED] said that the first five cases were reported in Europe in 2008.

“Since then, there have been a good 1,000 cases in Europe, maybe more,” he says. Cases have also been reported in Canada and USA.

In 2013, I bought sofas from Jennifer Convertibles, and experienced itchy feeling when sitting on it, and even when entering my house. A dermatologist told me that it’s caused by airborne contact dermatitis. The chemical evaporates during warm part of the day and goes airborne througout house. In the evening, it gets cool, so the chemical condensces. It’s heavier than air, so it settles into the carpet and is stored in the carpet pad (acts like a sponge). I got rid of the sofas and carpetting, and symptoms eventually went away over 3 months.

In 2014, I bought sofas from LA-Z Boy, and within an hour experienced same itchy feeling when entering my house. I got rid of the new sofas and new carpetting, and symptoms are going away over last 2 months.

Please be aware that this is a big problem.
