First aid Made Feb 16, 2026, sent to the company Feb 18, 2026, published by CPSC Mar 4, 2026
The product, in the report: Product type: Living room couch/sofa (upholstered seating furniture) from Bobs Discount Furniture. Product name/model: Shelby Light Gray Chofa SKU: 20076337 Color: Light gray / gray Dimensions: 81 in (W) x 31 in (H) x 35 in (D) Additional configuration: Includes an extra ottoman/sectional (chofa) component. Purpose: Residential seating furniture with removable cushions.
I purchased a couch from Bobs Discount Furniture approximately 3 years ago. While using the couch normally at home, I removed the back cushions (they are not attached) and came into contact with the exposed wooden frame area behind the cushions. A thick metal staple on the frame was protruding through the fabric (sharp end exposed) and punctured/stabbed me.
After the injury, I inspected the couch frame and observed multiple other staples on the frame that were raised/protruding and could also cause injuries. The cushions do not fully cover or protect this frame area, so a person can easily contact it during normal use.
The product was being used in a residential home setting by an adult (me) for normal seating and adjusting/removing cushions. An injury occurred: a puncture wound caused by the sharp end of a heavy staple protruding through the fabric. The injury happened when my arm contacted the exposed staple while adjusting the cushions. This condition presents a severe risk of additional puncture injuries to anyone using the couch, including to the head, especially my 3-year old child!
