No one hurt Made Jun 5, 2026, sent to the company Jun 10, 2026, published by CPSC Jun 26, 2026
The product, in the report: The product is a reclining sectional leather sofa
I bought a reclining sectional from Ashley - City Furniture. A couple of days after it was delivered I was sitting in the recliner with the feet up. I had to rush to get up and answer the door. My dog was sleeping under the recliner, so I had to get up with it up. The whole recliner flipped forward. This product is really unsafe. They sent out a service tech and he told me I had to put the recliner down before getting out. Ok think about that. Children are going to be hurt because I can see my grandchildren getting up with this recliner open. Customer service called a few minutes after he left. They repeated the same text. Dont get up with it open. I asked to return the item and I was told it couldnt be return after delivery

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Sep 24, 2025, sent to the company Nov 18, 2025, published by CPSC Dec 3, 2025
The product, in the report: My Cuban father died with $20 million like [REDACTED] in Accountant 1 and 2 he was the mob’s CPA at their [REDACTED] casinos where at the [REDACTED] he met my American Bostonian mom a chorus girl. My four kids got trusts as did all 8 grandkids my two sisters and me $3.2 million but my [REDACTED] lawyers at [REDACTED] old firm in D.C. said if my wife, [REDACTED], now 40 and I “lived” in [REDACTED] even as US citizens [REDACTED] could freeze all my assets until [REDACTED] embargo is over so I bought a huge 5 bedroom and 3 bath empty 3000 sq foot house and filled it all with Ashley Furniture from nearby store except for the guest room downstairs with [REDACTED] Furniture where I now sleep. So far I have found about $20000 of receipts for all the brown beautiful furniture I now want them to take back and reimburse me in this billion dollar claim I made through their 60 day dispute resolution. The brown leather couches are in 9 sections the largest is downstairs with 3 seat cushions where [REDACTED], 6, now with autism was in the womb the whole time and where I first made the OMG discovery that it was the source of all my skin problems in the summers and not in the winters in [REDACTED]! But now I fear all the other Ashley Furniture (brown, too, in all the rest of the house (dining room table, chairs, china cabinet, TV stands, dressers, end tables, etc are contaminated with Agent Orange and dioxin too and want them to take them, too. I am asking for a billion dollars and hoping to find a plaintiff lawyer like [REDACTED] a tax lawyer at [REDACTED] who went to law school with me at [REDACTED] with [REDACTED], too, who ironically used to make furniture before he was a top lawyer there and [REDACTED] is the godfather of my daughter [REDACTED] who has a hedge fund in [REDACTED] and lives with my grandkids in [REDACTED] where her mother is from. My guest room downstairs single bed day bed and chest are from [REDACTED] and is where I have to sleep now.
[REDACTED]: Pay-out due in ‘toxic sofa’ claim” (same thing terrible eczema caused by anti mold chemical that summer heat triggers burns on my skin happened to me (except when I visit my condo in [REDACTED]l every winter) [REDACTED]. Billionaire owner of Ashley Furniture and his lawyers live in [REDACTED] but huge factories in Vietnam and China sold me 9 leather sofas 7 years ago I am suing them for a billion for giving me this skin problem and Parkinson’s and my stepson [REDACTED] autism while in the womb lying on the same sofas ([REDACTED] Agent Orange and Dioxin still in Vietnam causing these problems there, too) in 60 day dispute resolution for my billion dollar claim (my last lawyer job was in D.C. for [REDACTED] FDIC giving millions to plaintiff lawyers to sue failed banks’ lawyers, CPAs, appraisers, etc) (my firm in CA became the biggest in CA just defending lawyers and doctors for malpractice at 1700) AI me, too. But I did not discover all this until a few months ago I woke up downstairs sofa on 100 degree day and only the part of my left arm directly exposed to the leather sofa after the Tshirt sleeve ended got burned with a chemical that caused eczema and same thing when another hot day upstairs I leaned back on my leather recliner to watch my 82 inch [REDACTED] TV upstairs and my whole back got burned on another 100 degree day without any Tshirt on. So 2 months ago I only watch TV upstairs and downstairs on dining room chairs and avoided all leather couches and my skin problems went all away. I am 72 years old and with just a few weeks ago got diagnosed by [REDACTED] in San Diego with Parkinson’s and I can send you the Petition for this 60 day resolution process that I put out there on my 200 [REDACTED] email list newsletter too that I turn into ebooks on Cuba on [REDACTED] too. And I can also answer any questions and send you other [REDACTED] emails showing how VA now automatically pays soldiers in Vietnam with Parkinson’s because of Agent Orange so I think since all my Ashley furniture came from Vietnam or China that Dioxin from Agent Orange is now in all my furniture (the plants have it and the cows eat the plants, etc and studies show more kids with autism if their mom’s pregnancy was near an Agent Orange area which is pretty much the whole country of Vietnam is contaminated. Ironically there are only 5 communist countries and none of my furniture in my condo in [REDACTED] where I was born, is from Vietnam or China either. So it was a huge mystery for all these years why this was only happening to me at my new 3000 sq ft 5 bed 3 bath home in [REDACTED]! And my dermatologist at [REDACTED] was clueless and just wanted to give me drugs and creams for my eczema which only made my skin worse!

First aid Made Jun 6, 2025, sent to the company Jun 11, 2025, published by CPSC Jun 26, 2025
The product, in the report: Product Involved: Sleeper sofa (sofa bed) sold by Ashley Furniture Purchase Date: December 2024 Order Number: [REDACTED] Location Purchased: Ashley Furniture, Salt Lake City, UT
Incident Description:
On May 9, 2025, my girlfriend, [REDACTED], sustained a laceration to the back of her leg from an exposed metal edge on the sleeper sofa while using it exactly as intended. After inspecting the frame, we found multiple dangerously sharp metal edges throughout the bed structureedges that are sharp enough to slice through a tomato, which we demonstrated in a video.
This was not a one-time injury. The product has a clear design defect with multiple exposed cutting surfaces that are accessible during regular use. We are concerned not only about this injury, but about the risk to othersespecially children or petswho could be seriously harmed by this product.
Ashley Furniture was notified, and despite acknowledging the defect and offering a refund for the sofa, they declined to accept responsibility beyond offering a $500 settlement for the injury. We have documented the defect with photos and video.
---
What Happened as a Result:
The injury did not require emergency care, but caused pain and left visible bruising/laceration.
We documented multiple areas of the product capable of causing the same injury or worse.
We preserved the product and provided all evidence to Ashley Furniture.
Ashley refused to provide appropriate compensation or take corrective action beyond issuing a refund.
---
Why Its Dangerous:
This sleeper sofa has multiple exposed metal edges that are dangerously sharp and fully accessible during normal use. They pose a serious risk of injury to both adults and children. The product should not be on the market in its current design.

Hurt, no treatment Made Jan 12, 2025, sent to the company Jan 17, 2025, published by CPSC Feb 3, 2025
The product, in the report: I am submitting a report regarding defective and unsafe furniture I purchased from Ashley Furniture on December 13, 2024, for $5,907.42. The sofa, loveseat, and recliner delivered to my home were structurally defective, caving inward, and lacking proper foundational support. These issues caused back spasms for me and created an unsafe environment for my 6-year-old autistic son. Despite submitting detailed photo and video evidence to Ashley Furniture and contacting their representatives repeatedly, no meaningful action has been taken to resolve this matter. Furthermore, I believe this constitutes bait-and-switch tactics, as the furniture delivered was significantly inferior to what was advertised and expected for the price paid. I am concerned that Ashley Furniture is knowingly delivering defective products, putting customers safety and well-being at risk. I request that the CPSC investigate this matter thoroughly to hold the company accountable and prevent future harm to other consumers. Supporting documentation, including photos, videos, and correspondence, is available upon request.

The product, in the report: colleyville sectional, grey
My cat was under the our powered sectional (Colleyville Sectional) and her tail got caught in the mechanical mechanism that moves the footrest up and down. We had to disassemble the motor from the couch, use a saw to take apart a plastic cover in order to free her tail. Her tail had to be partial amputated at the emergency vet immediately after. This mechanical piece (like a cork screw) should not be exposed enough for things to get caught in it.

The product, in the report: Cranedall 51403 5 pc Power Reclining Sectional (Sectionals - Reclining
Mother’s Day my fiancé went to the store . My kids 3 years old daughter and 11 month old son were playing in the dining room next to my sectional power reclining couch. I went to the bathroom and I heard my daughter calling for her brother like she was looking for him. I immediately got off the toilet and looked around the house for him. Could not find him. I decided to look under the recliner because my 3 year old daughter plays with the buttons . I found my 11 month old son under the recliner dead . The paramedics and hospital got him stable but he was on a ventilator. He had 3 severe brain injuries on the back of his head that caused him to be brain dead, could not eat, talk, see, move or anything . Me and my fiancé had to make the hardest decision any parent would have to make, which would be the quality of life we wanted for him . We decided to let him pass because it was not a life for a 11 month old. He would never walk or talk or see again. It broke our heart. The recliner was called a crane fall 5 piece power sectional recliner. I believe my daughter reclined the chair and our son crawled under and she reclined it shut not knowing he was under there.

First aid Made Mar 12, 2019, sent to the company Mar 28, 2019, published by CPSC Apr 18, 2019
The product, in the report: L Shaped couch, twin size bed frame with twin size boxed and spring mattresses.
I purchased a couch, twin bed with boxed and spring mattress for my daughter at Ashley Home Furniture Store, located in Blackwood, New Jersey. I financed this furniture in my name; by filling out an in store electronic application. My daughter then found out that her furniture was infested with Bed Bugs. We contacted the company and filed reports the following agencies FTC. CPA and BBB. Nothing was resolved with either agency. The company wanted to replace the furniture; but that was unacceptable. I wanted to know why, where and how did this store sell furniture that was infested with Bed Bugs. Also, several of my associated whom brought furniture from the same company has experience the same Bed Bug Infestation. So, now this is not just coincidental. Also, when I notified Wellsfargo Bank about the incident and refuse to make any further payments on the account, which is in my name. I requested a copy of all payments and the original application of credit contract that was signed by me at the furniture store. I received my account statement of payments, but it states I brought the furniture from Value City Furniture. Then Ashley Home furniture store put the account in my daughters name. RED FLAGS, saying I did not have an account with their company. But, the furniture was delivered to my daughters residence.

The product, in the report: Blended leather sectional couch, dark brown.
My family purchased a sectional couch in the summer of 2013. The couch began shedding its outer blended leather material coating in the fall of 2013. More and more of the coating of material that covered the couch flaked and peeled off over time. Our infant son occasionally ate pieces of the couch material and/or put his mouth on the couch itself thereby getting flakes in his mouth and inadvertently ingesting the material. At one year of age our son had a lead blood level of 12. Upon receiving this result, our family chose to test the couch material for lead. The couch resulted with 400 ppm.

The product, in the report: Ashley Brand “Durablend” sofa & loveseat, dark brown
We purchased an Ashley Brand sofa & loveseat in late 2011. The set is made of Durablend, a bonded leather. Starting about 2013, the sofa began peeling and flaking off- some in small pieces, others in rather large sections. This is NOT an isolated issue- there are thousands of complaints online and a pending class action suit in CA. On numerous occasions, I’ve had to remove the leather blend pieces from the mouths of my young children. It’s unknown to me what chemicals or glues are in the pieces, but at the very least they could easily present a choking hazard. My son (now three) did briefly gag/choke/ingest one of the larger “flakes” when he was about 2.

He said that he didn’t notice a strong odor for a couple of days but then the odor became very strong causing his nose, throat and eyes to burn.
He said that the odor has gotten a bit lighter and the burning isn’t as bad as it was a few days ago but that he wanted to report it due to the discomforting thought that it could be making him ill.
There are no injuries being reported
He has not contacted the manufacturer but does intend to contact them

The product, in the report: Ashley Damacio power reclining love seat and same style couch with console. Sold at Ashley Furniture (and other stores).
The power reclining switch of these products is located on the interior of the armrest below the level of the seat cushion top. The upholstry of the seat cushion interferes with the switch and can activate the power reclining function accidentally. One piece only needs slight pressure applied down on the cushion to cause a seam to bulge enough to start the reclining motion. When it reaches a certain recline level, it will continue to recline without any pressure at all. You have to push the seat away from the switch and push the other button to get the sofa to recline back down. The reclining motors are very powerful and could cause serious injury if someone was to get caught when the sofa decides to self-activate without the ability to stop it. We reported this to a technician that was here and he said he has the exact same set and his does the same thing and agreed it was a design defect but had no solution. For now, we have disconnected the motors since we have two very young children in the house.

The product, in the report: Axiom Leather Sofa and Loveseat
I recently purchased the Ashley Axiom sofa and loveseat from Ashley Furniture.
After it was delivered it had a terrible chemical smell. It was making everyone in my family sick. Eyes burning, throat burning, dizziness...migraine headaches. We have been working with AAFES to get it returned. It has been in our home for 7 days It is still making us sick. We have had windows open, air cleaners running. It is very heavy and we have no way to move it out of our house. We haven’t even sat on it! The next morning we moved it into another room because we couldn’t even be near it. We can smell the sofa and notice it comes from certain sections. We thought we were buying a set made of all leather. After lifting the cushion it states it is 50% leather and 50% leather splits. The strong odor is coming from the sections of “leather splits”.
These are large heavy pieces and our garage is detached and we have no way to get it our of our house till the merchant gets it removed. But after 7 days the smell is still there and making us sick.
We have leather furniture upstairs and we never had this issue before.
Also after we started having these issues I found another complaint on this very same website posted in 2012 with the same issues!!
