  1. No one hurt

Made Sep 18, 2026, sent to the company Sep 23, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 15, 2026

The product, in the report: SONOMA Goods for Life Dream Step Area Rug, 6 ft 6 in x 9 ft 6 in, 200 cm x 290 cm, cream and ivory with gray medallion floral pattern soft synthetic area rug sold by Kohls.

I am reporting a safety concern involving a Sonoma Goods for Life Dream Step area rug. From the time we purchased the rug, I noticed that the surface fibers were unusually slippery. This is not an issue with the rug itself sliding on the floor. The actual walking surface of the rug has very little traction.

The surface is noticeably slippery while wearing socks or slippers and, in my opinion, presents an unexpected fall hazard. Tonight, while normally using the room and playing with my daughter, my foot slipped on the surface of the rug and I fell, injuring my wrist.

My concern is that the surface is significantly more slippery than I would reasonably expect an area rug or carpeted surface to be. I am particularly concerned about the potential for a more serious fall involving a child, an older adult, or anyone with limited balance or mobility.

I am reporting this because I believe the unusually low traction of the rug’s surface should be evaluated as a potential product safety issue.
