The product, in the report: I purchased Mohawk STP44-12-L004 Sooth SPC II Silk Canvas carpet, Stainmaster select carpet pad. The installers used TRAXX corporation hot seam carpet glue which was heated to a high temperature using a hot iron and emitted fumes. No manufacturing date nor location of manufacturing facility provided. The sample given at lowes is dated from 2019 and not current.
I purchased Mohawk STP44-12-L004 Sooth SPC II Silk Canvas carpet, Stainmaster select carpet pad from Lowes, and signed a contract for Lowes installation services on 06/10/2021. The carpet and padding were installed in my home on 7/6/2021. By 07/08/2021 I began experiencing symptoms of an allergic reaction such as GI issues, short term memory loss, blurred vision, and began having rashes which spread over my body that are now scars that look more like chemical burns. Lowes Installation told me that there was a pesticide sprayed on the carpet at the warehouse, but now the manufacturer and Lowes claims office claims there isn’t. However, toxicology reports show high levels of certain substances and has affected my kidney function. The manufacturer claims that under code of federal regulations, title 29, subtitle B, chapter XVII, p art 1910, sub part Z, 1910.1200, section (2)(b)(6)(v) they are exempt from providing an SDS and do not have to disclose any substances, chemicals applied to the carpet. One of the documents provided after much inquiry quotes a study from 1994 and states that “should not create health problems for people - any people”. This is clearly false and citing a study from 1994 for safety of the carpet is outdated since chemicals and manufacturing processes have more than likely changed in 25 years. Also states that “ no specific links of adverse human health effects” which if they are interpret the law as being exempt from disclosing the chemicals applied, then it isn’t possible to definitely link the allergic reaction definitively to the carpet. I have not found any challenges in federal court to the carpet industries interpretation of the law and feel that this should be challenged. It isn’t right that they don’t have to disclose a SDS sheet and have created an exemption for themselves. I can provide copies of email correspondences or medical reports.
