The product, in the report: Single cloth bag wooden folding laundry hamper. It was purchased so many years ago, I don’t have any details other than the website noted on the tag inside the cloth bag (wintersetdesigns.com). A quick search on Bed Bath & Beyond demonstrated that this is a very popular hamper design likely manufactured by many different companies.
My three-year-old son was at my sister’s house and climbed into an empty laundry hamper. The design of the laundry hamper and my son’s height are such that his weight in the cloth bag forced the top of the hamper that consists of two parallel wood rods to snap shut around his neck. He was unable to breathe or even make noise. Luckily, his six-year-old brother and five-year-old cousin were in the room and were able to call for an adult to help. The hamper had to be fully lifted out of the corner where it stood in between a dresser and toy chest in order to get him out - not easy to do. He did not require medical care as he was extracted very quickly, but I am deeply concerned that this particular design that several manufacturers produce could be lethal for other children.
