Delivered 5/13/21. Injury 5/14/21

I purchased a Lazy Boy recliner. Second day I had the chair, my adult daughter was reclining in the chair, when it suddenly fell completely backwards. She fell backwards and hit her head. She suffered a concussion. The store manager says we are unable to return the product, which we owned for less than 3 days. This product is not safe and should be recalled before someone dies from an injury. This website does not allow the manufacture date to be after the purchase date. However, recliners are reportedly not manufactured until after purchase. The purchase date was 2/14/21 and approximate manufacture date 4/19/21, based on date of wood on chair, but not positive.

The product, in the report: LAZBOY GREYSON RECLINA-ROCKER

My father is 87 and lives with my husband and me. He is recovering from 07/07/14 surgery of the R leg. Due to ongoing discomfort at night, my father decided to sleep in his living room-based LAZBOY chair on 07/12/14. We agreed it was safe, would help, and he was sleeping soundly in the full recliner position when my husband and I went to bed. During the early morning/approximately 2AM, I was awakened to hear my father in the bathroom and proceeded to the living room to await updates with him. While he was still in the bathroom, I noticed that the LAZBOY chair was lying on its back and immediately went to my father. He was upset and reported being awakened by the chair falling backwards. He described maneuvering himself up and over the chair with its back on the floor. He navigated (on his buttocks) to the opposite side of the chair to reach his walker. When asked why he did not call out to my husband and me, my father reported being shocked, “just needed to get out of that chair.” The movement/mobilization incurred during the incident loosened the bandage over my father’s graft harvest site on his R thigh causing excess leakage of fluid/blood. I reapplied bandaging to the site as necessary. The graft/surgical site below the knee is not directly observable and cannot be assessed at this time. The surgeon’s office is aware the incident, associated concerns, and is monitoring. My father will be seen in follow-up, as planned, on 07/16/14 unless otherwise indicated. Please note: Prior to this occurring, my father had not utilized the chair in its full recliner position to sleep.

The chair was purchased on 08/14/13 at LAZBOY Furniture Galleries 100 Quinn Drive Pittsburgh, PA 15275 GREYSON RECLINA-ROCKER 010530 C101176 FN 175
