The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

Hampton Bay patio furniture from Home Depot. Two rocking chairs, love seat/glider and 4 tile table.

Both chairs failed catastrophically, without warning. Was not leaning back hard. I only weigh about 180 lbs. The four round, tubular legs that join together under the chair broke completely in half, all at one time. And both times, I hit the concrete patio hard, getting very stunned both times, taking several minutes to recover. Again, completely without warning. I have pictures if I can find a place to upload them. Both chairs failed within a month of each other.

The product, in the report: It is a Hampton Bay Calabria Sling Swivel Rocker included in the Hampton Bay 3-Piece Calabria Bistro Set, product #795-704.

The base of our Hampton Bay Calabria Sling Swivel Rocker broke unexpectedly under normal use. No serious injury, but that was probably just lucky. The chair is rated for 300 pounds and the occupant was certainly less than that weight. The problem is probably similar to the recent Hampton Bay recall for the Hampton Bay Fall River Swivel Rocker Chairs. Two photos are attached to this email, one showing the crooked base, the other photo showing how two of the three supports failed.

The product, in the report: Hampton Bay Fall River 7PC Dining Set (Patio chairs and table)

In April of 2013, my husband I purchased the Fall River 7PC dining set. We were enjoying it one day on the patio and he leaned back in his rocker and it fell off its base. He was startled and hit his head and arm on the patio. We did not seek medical attention, but he was quite shaken up and bruised. I immediately contact Hampton Bay for a replacement. I even sent pictures of the chair and its broken base to the initial contact. After several months passed and many, many phone calls we finally received a replacement. I thought it was weird that they didn’t want the broken chair back...I thought they would want to see if it was faulty. I was told to simply dispose of it. We still have our 7PC set on the patio.

My wife was sitting in one of the two swivel chairs that came with this set. We were sitting on the deck, talking. The next think I know she is falling backwards and ended up banging her elbow and the back of her head on the deck. It appears that one of the welds holding the aluminum tubing on the base of the chair broke, and the remaining two tubes were not strong enough to support the weight of the chair and my wife and the chair collapsed when those two renaming tubes broke. We have rerely used this set, as it is only comfortable enough here in North Carolina to sit outside for about two months of every year.
