The product, in the report: Zero Gravity Chair - Gray The Zero Gravity Chair allows you to feel light and weightless when it’s reclined, so you can relax with your legs above heart level. This position takes most of the weight off your back. The Zero Gravity Chair has a 300-pound weight capacity with an adjustable headrest. Folds down to only 5 1/2” thick for easy storage.
We purchased a set of 2 zero gravity chairs from Sam’s Club in June 2018 (Item # 545111, Model # 80009000152.) On Sam’s website, 3 of the specifications listed for these chairs is “Long lasting outdoor grade fabric, “ “300-lbs. weight capacity, “ and “Relax with the smooth recline function.”
Yesterday, August 5th 2019 my wife was using one of these chairs in our backyard on a level surface. She is well below the listed maximum weight capacity. She leaned back in the chair as she has in the past and relaxed. After 5 minutes of laying in the chair something collapsed and she fell backwards, ending up with her head on the ground and her feet up in the air. She is fortunate she did not sustain a debilitating head, neck, or back injury.
After further inspection of the chair it appears the plastic armrests gave way and allowed the chair’s frame to bust through (on both sides.) Additionally the pivot mechanisms that allow the chair to recline do not look symmetrical any longer - it appears the one on the chair’s right side (while seated) shifted into a different position than it was originally in.
