The product, in the report: Reardan Rocker Recliner, Cloth Fabric, Color:Smoke, Side-Handle Manual Recline Mechanism, 35.5”W x 38”D x 41”H, Weight: 112lbs. Model 273-5064 UPC 024052577709

I purchased an Reardon Recliner (made by Ashley Furniture) about 15 months ago from a Menard’s retail store in Warren, MI. While bringing it home, I noticed a strong chemical odor emanating from it; but thought it a “new” smell that would dissipate shortly. I left the country for 4 months and upon returning used the recliner in my living room in Summer with my windows open. I didn’t notice the odor to any significant degree. Then, when Winter 2020 came and I closed my windows, I began to experience a noxious chemical odor from the recliner that was making me nauseous and somewhat disoriented. The chemical odor even transferred itself to my clothing, blankets, etc. Upon removing the chair from my home, the odor disappeared almost immediately. I have kept the outside while making attempts to notify Menard’s and Ashley Furniture. Menard’s would not take it back due to the length of time since purchase. Ashley insisted that the matter be handled exclusively by Menard’s. They were in total denial and disinterest regarding the problem; even to the point of blaming Menard’s for spilling something on the recliner, even though it was in a sealed box when I purchased it! A few days ago, just for curiosity, I brought t. he chair back in the house to see if the odor had subsided. Within a few minutes, my house wreaked from the smell, which even transferred itself to my clothing. My wife also verifies the presence of the strong odor coming from the piece. Again, as soon as I removed it, the odor dissipated significantly; but traces of it still remain. I have read several consumer complaints about AshleyFurniture, a number of them involving foul chemical odors on their furniture. I feel this is a dangerous situation that the public should be protected from and welcome any help you can offer to remedy the problem.
