The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Quantum Realspace PRO™ 9000 Office Chair

This chair was recalled in October 2009 b/c the bolts securing the back to the chair shear off causing a fall risk. My son, an engineer, was nearly injured when he reclined in the chair and the back broke. He got a repair kit after being routed to various departments at the manufacturer and submitting photos of the broken chair. The new back has four instead of two bolts and instructions to tighten them periodically and my son is satisfied with the new design, at least for now. What disturbs me is that a) no one at the manufacturer recognized that the product had been recalled - since we have another Quantum chair, I did a little research and discovered the recall on my own and b) Office Depot seems to be holding up a negative review I tried to post indicating that the chair had been recalled and that you could get a replacement back by filling out an online form. Furthermore, Office Depot does not have the recall notice posted on their site even though it’s obvious from customer complaints that people are still being endangered by breaking chairs.
