The product, in the report: Ivory covered, top-grain leather, full-size couch with dual electric recliners.
January 31, 2013, we purchased a dual electric reclining couch from Macy’s, manufactured by Man Wah (USA) Inc of North Carolina. On May 3 in the early evening, my wife and baby and I were sitting on the couch; my wife had reclined her side of the couch, and I pressed the button to recline my side. It began to recline, then started buzzing, then a large fiery spark flew up on the outside of the armrest, barely missing us. I jumped up and pulled the plug out of the wall. The couch’s motors were dead. When Macy’s delivery staff returned today to pick it up, the delivery man observed that the power cord had actually gotten tangled in the mechanism underneath the chair -- meaning that the power cord was unsecured, slack and loose under the chair. I shudder to think of the fire or electrocution that could have been caused by literally cutting a live power cord while sitting on the couch that was doing the cutting. It’s a dangerous design flaw, and one that’s easily corrected. Someone in my family could have been killed, or my house could have burned down.
