The product, in the report: The Living Spaces Ansel Power Recliner suffers from a known safety hazard where its front-heavy balance fulcrum can cause the chair to spontaneously flip forward while fully reclined. Because this defect can cause sudden falls and physical injury, addressing it immediately is a safety priority. They are still selling this chair online at www.livingspaces.com pdp-ansel-olive-green-fabric-33-inch-power-recliner-with-usb-369868
The Living Spaces Ansel Power Recliner suffers from a known safety hazard where its front-heavy balance fulcrum can cause the chair to spontaneously flip forward while fully reclined. Because this defect can cause sudden falls and physical injury, addressing it immediately is a safety priority. This is a Living Spaces proprietary product designed and manufactured by them. A sales person looked at the design plans for the chair and verified that it has a front heavy balance fulcrum when reclined after the first incident, but for the past 4 months the La Mirada Living Space headquarters office has refused to acknowledge this as a safety issue and is still selling the chair but for less money. I purchased an Ansel power recliner from the Living Spaces store in San Leandro April of 2026 intending to sleep in it after hip surgery. 3 hrs after the ambulance brought me home from the hospital on Apr 29, I was sound asleep in the recliner with it fully reclined when without warning it tipped toward the front and dumped me down the legrest onto the floor. 911 was called as I needed assistance from the Fire Dept. to get up off of the floor and it took a month to find that the surgery had not been compromised. The only phone number I can call is the Customer Service number at Living Spaces headquarters office and they refuse to talk to anyone when purchase is more than 7 days past. I wrote them a formal multipage detailed letter which was delivered certified on July 6 to the headquarters office, but they refused to respond until I filed a [REDACTED] review on August 2. Since then they have told me that this is a property damage issue and had me waiting for a repair technician. The chair is not damaged but a repair technician is all they will send for the technical inspection. The technical inspection was supposed to be September 2 but the tech never showed up. Now they are trying to reschedule the same technician for September 23 but I don’t believe the repairman they are sending is qualified and no one will clarify the qualifications of the technician to me. Frankly, repairing the chair would require the entire internal structure balance and power mechanism to be replaced and I don’t understand why they won’t just remove the chair and give me my money back. This is about an unsafe product, not just about the money which I can ill afford to have wasted. I cannot move the chair on my own. I am 74 years old and have reclined in the chair very rarely despite the fact that it sits in the middle of my small living room because I don’t trust it and am terrified when it flips me down on the floor. It has flipped forward when reclined twice in the past month but only when I have fallen asleep. Fortunately my only injuries have been brusing from the struggle to get up off the floor. It is highly likely that I am not the only one who has had this experience and some may not have survived.
