The product, in the report: Lazy-Boy power reclining chair. LB174757 WI30 TRI-POWER RECLINER
While sitting in our Lazy-Boy power reclining chair, my wife smelled smoke. We found a small file in the base of the chair. Unplugging the chair from the wall and turning it over on it’s side stopped the fire before any injury. Investigation revealed that power cable that runs from the 29 volt power supply to the electronics under the chair had become pinched in the chair mechanism and shorted out.

The product, in the report: Lazy boy Scarlett high leg leather reclining chair . Blueberry leather
I have a lazy boy reclining chair - after 2 months the nails that hold the leather to the chair came off and the nail heads were sticking out of the chair towards people. Also the bolts that hold the chair to the arms were too short and the chair was unstable. They came and replaced the nails and 2 days later - the nails once again came apart from the chair. The leather is folded and then tacked- so the nails are now facing towards people. There are numerous nail heads. A search of Lazy B [REDACTED] groups, have shown this is not isolated. It is a common issue

First aid Made Oct 7, 2022, sent to the company Oct 13, 2022, published by CPSC Oct 27, 2022
The product, in the report: LA-Z-BOY Rocker/recliner
LA-Z-BOY Rocker/Recliner: Finley #010747 with curved front arms especially with slicker fabrics is a dangerous design flaw especially noticed when attempting to stand upright from the sitting position of the rocker: I have had many LA-Z-BOY rocker/recliners over the years. This is the very first one I have ever fallen to the floor trying to stand up from. I am a strong and healthy senior and I still am felling pained from this serious fall over twelve hours ago. The arms of this rocker recliner are curved downward so that when you go to get up your hands must press on the end of the arms which of course causes the rocker to slant down. This is normal. What is not normal or alright is the downward slant of these curved arms to the front of the rocker/recliner which can produce a dangerous situation. This stocked chair comes with a less textured and slicker fabric which adds to the hands being able to easily slide off the arms of the chair while you are rising. After being seated for an hour or so and In attempting to lift myself up off this chair into a standing position the downward pressure on these forward curving, slicker fabric arms cause my hands to unexpectedly slide off these curved arms causing a totally unexpected and harsh fall to the floor. I feel that this situation is particular to this curved arm chair and the chair should probably be discontinued or at least have a warning notice of the possibility of a dangerous situation with a serious fall on exiting the chair.

The product, in the report: Lazyboy Recliner Chair Model Margaret ID:RTLLAZB2108240-048-001 Margaret Bronze Lift Recliner color grey-beige Width 29” (side to side) Depth 39” (front to back) Height 41” (bottom to top) Seat depth 19.5” Arm height 25” Seat height 19.5” Seat width 18”
We purchased a Lazyboy, Margaret bronze lift recliner, in September 20, 2021, delivered December 22, 2021 on Saturday 1/1/2022 the chair broke separating the top frame from the base, flipping my 90 year old mother onto her back with her head against the wall. We discovered 3 bolts stripped from the base on the floor we have not found a fourth bolt, which was expected. The base of the recliner remained stationary on the floor with the back disengaged from the frame. We immediately called Lazyboy who will investigate in February, but I am concerned because this appears to be a design flaw with a risk of an injury or death. I do not want to see them hide the problem this chair should be recalled!
We had a CT scan and X-ray that ruled out any severe injuries but my Mother is very sore.
My Mother is 5’1” and weights about 130-140 lbs well within the parameters of this chair capacity.

The product, in the report: Small upholstered lazy boy recliner, purchased May/June 2021
My elderly relative with confusion put both legs through the gap in the footrest of her lazy boy recliner, when the footrest was extended. She was yelling for help. I could not extricate her from the chair and called the local fire department who was successful in getting her lower legs out. Had she fell she likely would have severely lacerated her lower legs and possibly have bilateral fractures. I have a picture of how her legs were stuck.

The product, in the report: La-Z-Boy power lift recliner Model 2BL-792
The consumer stated that she thought the recliner was unplugged because of previous tip-over issues. She thinks that the person from La-Z-Boy who came to look at the product plugged it back in. On 10/26/2021, the consumer’s 97 year old mother was sitting in the recliner. The consumer accidently placed an object on object on top of the remote that is used to lift the chair to a standing position. The chair tipped forward and her mother was dumped to the floor. The consumer had to call the paramedics to assist her with her mother.

The product, in the report: Lazyboy Recliner chair with a swivel base
I received a swivel, recliner from LazyBoy. The first sit my husband reclined back and the bottom snapped off and catapulted him backwards in a tumble. The store manager wasn’t interested in figuring out HOW this chair showed up obviously without a safety inspection. He wanted to fix it. There’s no fixing this. The integrity of the structure was compromised when the bolts stripped from the base and snapped the chair over it’s top. After requesting to speak to someone else, I got to the Jr. Vice President of our area and he said 4000 Warehouse workers were furloughed due to covid. He would get down to the bottom of it. I’m not holding my breath. If this was my grandparent this situation could have ended very badly. Fortunately my husband is young and in great shape. I’m concerned about the safety measures not being taken seriously.

Hurt, care not known Made Feb 27, 2020, sent to the company Mar 6, 2020, published by CPSC Mar 27, 2020
The product, in the report: La Z Boy Leather recliner rocker in chocolate color.
So far I have purchased 2 expensive La Z Boy Leather Recliner Rockers from the local La Z Boy Dealer. As soon as the first recliner was delivered and placed in my living room my eyes began to burn. After sitting in the first recliner for approximately 15 minutes I began to itch on my legs, arms and back. The itching was most prevalent on exposed skin areas where a red rash started to develop. My eyes continued to burn. I called the La Z Boy Store and asked them to come and described what was happening. They seemed surprised about it and asked if I had included a special coating on the recliner. I said I had purchased it off their showroom floor and didn’t know if it had been treated or not. They immediately sent their truck to pick up the recliner and I was given a full refund.
After thinking the first recliner must have been a problem of some kind I returned to the La Z Boy Store and bought a different style of leather recliner and had it delivered. After about 15 minutes I started having the same issues that I had with the first chair. Again I called the store and they sent their truck back, picked up the chair and refunded the purchase price.
I then saw a chair at the local [REDACTED] store that was covered in fabric instead of leather so I bought it and took it home myself. After removing the plastic wrap in my living room and sitting in the chair for several minutes the itching and burning sensation returned. Another person who was with me started complaining about a chemical smell and her eyes began to burn and she hadn’t even sat in the chair. I replaced the plastic and returned the chair that evening.
As soon as all three recliners were removed from my residence the reactions I/we had were gone and the itching stopped.
1 more try here. I went to a nearby furniture/electronics store to see what they had in recliners. I found an [REDACTED] with a cloth covering that I liked and decided to sit in it for several minutes prior to buying it. Guess what.....same issues began to develop. Itching on the arms, back and legs. Needless to say I left the store without making the purchase.
I have never had any problems with the La Z Boy Leather Recliner/Rocker that I have had for the past 25 years but it’s wearing out. I now have it covered to hide the worn out areas. Evidently something has changed in the past few years to create allergic reactions. I have read several articles about dimethyl fumarate (DMF) the chemical used for mold prevention that has been banned in several countries but NOT in the US which makes no sense at all. Many examples of people with allergic reactions to their new furniture are posted online so I thought I would add another one.
Good luck to anyone buying new furniture. I won’t be buying anything more.

The product, in the report: Rocker Recliner chair
10/24/2019: Two identical recliners were delivered to the consumer’s home. Later that afternoon, the consumer noticed an odor emitting from the chairs. He and his wife sat in the chairs for several hours, but soon after, had to take their “[REDACTED],” to help with their breathing difficulties.
NOTE: Recently, the consumer was away from his home for 4 days and did not have to use their [REDACTED] at all. However, as soon as they returned home, they had to return to taking [REDACTED].
Within a day or so, the consumer called the mfr. and reported his concerns to their rep. The consumer asked what type of dye did they use to color the leather in their chairs, but the rep. said they do not use dyes. The consumer said the rep. did not have any additional details and nothing else transpired.
The consumer also corresponded with the firm by email and one of the responses he received, advised him to allow the chairs to air out and to open windows and doors to speed up the process. The consumer said that he can do this, but it doesn’t answer the questions about his concerns. The consumer corresponded with the firm’s rep., [REDACTED], Escalations Specialist, Tel: [REDACTED]. The consumer wanted to speak with a person, who has clinical knowledge and could discuss the issue from medical perspective. The firm did not provide such a person.
The firm’s rep. offered to change the colors of the chair, but the consumer said he could not be assured that replacement chairs would not present the same problem. He would like to know what specific materials were used to make and color the chairs.
The consumer noted that they have had 6 or 7 of these chairs in the past, but have never experienced these types of problems. [Question: What dyes are in the chair; are they made from recycle foam; is there information that can be provided to answer his questions?]
NOTE: The consumer will provide additional details of his correspondence with the firm, by email.

The product, in the report: Luxury Lift power lift recliner
You already have a recall for La-Z-Boy Recliner power supply (recall #17-083), limited to lot #150113. I recently moved my elderly mother into an assisted living facility and found that her La-Z-Boy recliner has the same exact power supply with the same exact dangerous failure - the screw mountings have broken and the cover is loose. She has it taped together, which is the only thing keeping her from being exposed to high voltage within the power supply. This is the exact same power supply as in recall [REDACTED], but it is not from lot #[REDACTED], it is lot # 110001. This recall should appropriately be extended to other lot numbers, probably all of which suffer from the same hazardous failure mode and risk of exposure to elderly users of this furniture. I have informed La-Z-Boy of this condition but they decline any remedy.

He then contacted the firm and reported this issue. He was told that his LOT # is not included in the recall and they could not assist with parts. The submitter believes this LOT # should be added to the recall.
He has since taped the supply box so that the electrical wires are not exposed.

The product, in the report: Recliner
The consumer indicates that when the chair is in its reclining position with the footrest up, the entire unit tips forward when one tries to get out of the chair.
The consumer believes the base of the recliner has a faulty design.
The consumer contacted the place of purchase and explained the situation; the representative he spoke to informed him that he has never heard such a complaint and thus it must be due to user-error.
The consumer states that the units have been used approximately three times for less than half hour each use.
The consumer plans on keeping his two recliners for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

Dear Sir This will be my first attempt to bring notice of a product that is lacking in safety. I purchased a LAZY BOY (POWER RECLINER (P1M702) model. This model has a long hard wired remote control. After three years of use , my wife went to exit from the sitting position the remote had slid between the seat an arm rest. Upon rising from the seat the seat cushion returned to normal trapping an activating the foot rest. This pushed against her back legs as she was trying to stand. RESULT LOSS OF BALANCE. Part of the foot rest failed giving full access to the floor.
My experience involved personal safety. Many ways this could have been prevented by manufacture ! I have disconnected the electric from this chair until I install device to prevent chair remote from becoming trapped. I request that all LAZY BOY owners be notified of this possibility NOW.
A video can be provided of chair in motion with remote TRAPPED.

The product, in the report: RECLINER POWER CHAIR BY LAZY BOY IN NORTHWOOD OHIO
REF/ sku 039682993
Dear Sir This will be my first attempt to bring notice of a product that is lacking in saftey. I purchased a LAZY BOY (POWER RECLINER (LANCE) model. ` Part of the foot rest failed giving full acess to the floor.
My experience involved personal safety. Many ways this could have been prevented by manufacture ! I have disconnected the electric from this chair until I install device to prevent chair remote from becoming trapped. I request that all LAZY BOY owners be notified of this possibility NOW .. A video can be provided of chair in motion with remote TRAPPED.

The product, in the report: fabric covered recliner chair
The consumer purchased two of the same chair and she picked them up on March 6.
The consumer immediately noticed a strong chemical odor coming from the chairs. After 3 days the consumer contacted the store, Art Van Furniture and expressed her safety concerns. She indicated that she was getting a headache and a tight feeling in her chest and she believes it was being caused from the chemical odor.
On March 14, the store sent out a technician to her home and the technician advised her that the smell will dissipate over time, possible 3 weeks.
On March 15, the consumer went to the store and advised the manager of her safety concerns. The consumer was told to spray Febreeze on the chairs. The consumer did as she was told.
The consumer states that the chemical odor did not go away and she opened the windows to help air out the odor.
The consumer called the store again and on March 21 the store sent out another technician. The technician advised the consumer that the odor could be from the foam or cover and he sprayed Airlift on both chairs.
The consumer said the smell was better for about 36 hours and then the chemical odor returned.
The consumer indicated that her neighbor got a headache and pain in her chest after 15 minutes of sitting on the chair.
On March 25, the consumer sprayed Febreeze on the chairs. She said the odor did not dissipate and she contacted the store requesting to return them. The consumer was told that the store would charge a 25% restocking fee or a 10% restocking fee if she purchased another La-Z-Boy product.
The consumer plans to return the chairs today and purchase another product.
The consumer also contacted the firm, La-Z-Boy and informed them of her safety concerns. The consumer was told that their chairs meet all regulations and were safe. The consumer was also told she could wash the chairs with Neutrogena soap. The consumer refused to wash the new chairs. Thought Art Van would refuse to take them back if washed.

The product, in the report: PINNACLE PLT LUX LIFT XR W/HEAT & MSSG Recliner/Lift Chair
On Monday May 4th at 7:25PM, while sitting in my new (which I had received on Wednesday April 29th), Lazy Boy Style 1PM 512 recliner lift chair with the legs lifted I bent forward to get a drink on my table and the chair tipped and I slid forward and down onto the floor.
I had some difficulty getting up off the floor. I messaged a friend on my cell who was in communication with me.
I was OK and determined to get up by myself, and I did after about 20minutes, Just as my neighbor downstairs came to help. She had been alerted by the friend I was messaging.
Someone asked me if I shouldn’t report it, but I declined to at the time.
This is the same kind of difficulty reported by the recall of Lazy Boy recliners, but the chair I experienced the problem with is not on the list per Lazy Boy.
It should be!

I have a Brown fabric Chaise Recliner from Lazy Boy furniture. My daughter , who is 6 years old, got her foot wedged under a piece of wood when her foot slipped into the space where the chaise back meets the seat portion.
She was unable to free herself and her foot was trapped under an unfinished piece of wood. With great difficulty I was able to free her foot. She sustained severe bruising and a foot sprain and required pain relievers for over a week. This piece of wood should be padded or blocked so that a foot or arm cannot get trapped. This happened again today.

The product, in the report: La-Z-Boy Vail Power Recliner XR chair, brown suede
I purchased a La-Z-Boy Vail XR power recliner on Aug 31, 2012. I was sitting in the chair in an upright position on Friday, Nov 16, 2012, when I dropped a piece of popcorn in the chair, and reached between the bottom cushion and the arm of the chair to attempt to retrieve the popcorn. I cut my finger severely. I turned the chair over and discovered some very sharp edges on some exposed metal. It seems to be a natural reaction for someone to attempt to retrieve a dropped object. I dread the thought of a small child attempting to retrieve a toy or other object. I can easily imagine the possibility of a severed finger.

The product, in the report: la-Z-Boy Lift Chair W/PW RECl/HE llH 550 B2896714 Stock #550 Lift - 002-0lD
My mother purchased a La-Z -Boy Lift Chair ( w/pw Reel/HE) and was unable to use it because of the hazardous design flaw at the base of the chair. (photos enclosed ) The upholstered portion ofthis La-Z-Boy lift chair is suspended 4” above the floor exposing the metal frame at the base of the chair. The metal frame flares out beyond the upholstered portion of the chair and at each end point of the support frame there are bolts sticking up 1 inch from the frame. I became aware of this frame problem when I hit my foot on one of the exposed bolts when I approached the chair to move it. I am concerned not only about my mother getting injured using this lift chair, since she is 97 years old and a diabetic, but also about her health care giver when she approaches the chair to assist her.

The product, in the report: La-Z-Boy custom leather glider-recliner.
On April 11,2009, we purchased a La-Z-Boy glider-recliner and received delivery on May 30, 2009. The chair began squeaking in November 2009. The squeaking became progressively louder and began leaving a black dust that permanently stained our carpet. In mid-May 2010, when the squeaking became unbearable, I telephoned the store where we had purchased the chair. The salesman who answered the telephone refused to give me the telephone number for the service center, said this sometimes happens, and told me to put candle wax where it was squeaking. My husband looked at the chair and could not ascertain where the salesman thought we should put the wax. So, in early June 2010, I telephoned the store again. This time a different salesman provided me with the telephone number for the service center. When I spoke with the service center, they told me that the chair was just out of warranty and I would have to pay to have the chair repaired and for delivery. They also told me the permanent black dust on my carpet was metal dust and would not come out. The delivery service picked the chair up on June 25, 2010, and returned the repaired chair on July 2, 2010.
The night of December 6, 2010, while rocking my baby I heard a loud noise and nearly flipped over in the chair. We discovered that the head of a bolt had been sheared off. The next day, I telephoned the service center. They advised me that the warranty on the repair had expired and I would be responsible for the cost fo the repair and delivery. After speaking with the Customer Service Headquarters in Michigan, I was told that I would only need to pay for the chair to be delivered. The delivery service picked up the chair on December 10, 2010, and returned it on December 17, 2010. I was advised that the service center had completely replaced the internal components of the chair.
On May 31, 2011, while my husband was rocking our toddler, we heard another loud sound. After inspecting the chair, we found that once again, the head of a bolt had been sheared off. I believe that this chair is unsafe and that it could cause an injury.
