This report involves a serious leg injury caused by the failure of a footrest locking mechanism on a recently purchased recliner chair from online retailer, Wayfair under their Birch Lane Brand, and the automatic and extremely forceful deployment of the footrest. According to reviews published on the Wayfair website that are written by consumers that purchased the same chair, Wayfair has known about the faulty and dangerous footrest and locking mechanism for years. Unfortunately, it appears at this time that no one has reported the failure and danger to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. A small child could be seriously injured or killed by the aggressive and forceful deployment of the footrest on this particular chair if it remains on the market.
