No one hurt Made Apr 30, 2026, sent to the company May 5, 2026, published by CPSC May 19, 2026
The product, in the report: Ashley Correze powered recliner loveseat and chair (three units total). Grey leather upholstery.
I am submitting this Notice of Dispute concerning an Ashley Correze powered reclining loveseat and matching powered reclining chair purchased on June 27, 2020 from Evans Furniture in Chico, CA. The furniture has experienced repeated failures involving the powered reclining/control electronics. The pattern of failures, and the most recent overheating/burning event, indicate a serious safety defect rather than ordinary wear or isolated component failure.
The relevant history is as follows: June 27, 2020: Purchased Ashley Correze powered reclining loveseat and matching powered reclining chair from Evans Furniture. September 1, 2020: A headrest motor failed while the one-year warranty was still in effect. Although the product was under warranty, I was required to pay a $99 service visit fee. The parts were covered. September 22, 2022: A recliner began making loud clunking noises during operation. I paid another $99 service visit fee. The technician found loose fasteners and tightened them. February 18, 2023: A control panel failed, with no button function, and began drawing excessive current. The power supply was hot to the touch. I paid another $99 service visit fee, and the technician replaced the control panel. January 11, 2024: A second control panel suffered the same type of failure. I paid another $99 service visit fee, and the control panel was replaced. April 29, 2026: I smelled burning electronics coming from a third control panel. I immediately stopped using the furniture and investigated. I removed the faulty control PCBs and found visible heat damage. The plastic housing was scorched and partly melted.
I currently have four control PCBs available for inspection because I kept one of the boards previously removed by the service technician. Of these four boards, two are marked V1.1 and had burned. Two are marked V1.5 and had not burned. The fact that the failed boards are marked V1.1, while later boards are marked V1.5, strongly suggests that the control PCB was revised after the original design. The repeated failures and visible thermal damage raise a serious concern that the V1.1 control board has a high failure rate and presents an overheating/fire hazard.
This is especially concerning because we never used the USB power outlet or the inductive charging function on these units not once. The failure occurred without any user load on those charging features.
In my view, Ashley sold powered furniture containing defective control electronics that failed repeatedly and ultimately overheated severely enough to scorch and partially melt the plastic housing. Ashley has not, to my knowledge, issued a recall, safety notice, or corrective action for this issue. Given the repeated failures, excess current draw, hot power supply, burned PCBs, and melted plastic, this is not merely a cosmetic or convenience problem. It is a product safety issue. I have retained the failed PCBs, the non-burned replacement boards, and the damaged plastic parts. I can provide photographs, service records, receipts, and the boards themselves for inspection.

No one hurt Made Dec 26, 2025, sent to the company Dec 31, 2025, published by CPSC Jan 15, 2026
The product, in the report: Electric lift recliner/chair. Manufactured by Ashley furniture. Name of the produce is Ballister Gunmetal Power Lift Chair (ASH50) 21604512
At approximately 1:00 a.m. on December 12, we smelled a burning odor in our home but were unable to locate the source at that time.
A few hours later, when I got up and sat in my lift recliner, it did not operate. I checked the power cord, which was plugged into a surge protector, and discovered that the AC adapter box leading to the chair had melted. The heat from the adapter also burned the floor.
There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

No one hurt Made Nov 10, 2025, sent to the company Nov 18, 2025, published by CPSC Dec 3, 2025
The product, in the report: Ashley Furniture Shadowboxer Lumbar Dual Power Zero gravity recliner. SKU at American Furniture Warehouse is A1-161PR. It comes in tow colors--mine is the Slate (gray) color.
I have a one month old recliner with illuminated cup holders and two charging ports (USB A and USB C). The ports became so hot last night that they could not be touched and if the electric recliner remained connected to power it would have melted the surrounding area and probably started a fire. Even after the ports stopped working, the supporting electronics continued to heat up. This is an Ashley made recliner and in 2021 to 2023 these recliners were subject to a recall due to several fires. The problem seems to remain unaddressed.

Hurt, care not known Made Apr 3, 2023, sent to the company Apr 5, 2023, published by CPSC Apr 19, 2023
The product, in the report: Wide seat recliner item number 1770152
I purchased 2 oversize recliners from Ashley Furniture in Geneva IL. They were delivered on 3-29-23. When you sit in the recliner and recline or/and fall asleep if you put any pressure in the foot part of recliner it flips over on top of you after it throughs you to the floor. My boyfriend said it hurt his arm trying to catch the chair. These are very unsafe recliners. They have nothing to stop it from flipping over. The chair also flipped on my granddaughter but I caught the chair before it hit her and she was not hurt but scared. When I called the store they informed all sales final and would not discuss how unsafe they are. This product should be recalled before someone is killed.

The product, in the report: Ashley Furniture Electric Recliner
Ashley Electric Recliner operating/moving through no input of the user. I have videos of it doing so. This is an extremely hazardous situation. If the chair moves without input from the user children, animals, other objects could get in the way when reclining/sitting up. This recliner has knocked a disabled individual onto the floor, twice now, requiring EMS intervention.
UPDATED ON 4/19/2023: [On 04/18/2023 at 12:03 PM, a representative from Homemakers came out to inspect the faulty chair. When I explained the situation, and stated that I felt the issue was a design flaw, the technician stated, “that was my opinion.” A new part was to be ordered to replace the “power switch due to it ghosting.”. I was told that the supposed part would take 48 weeks. Not hours or days, but 48 weeks. Meanwhile the disabled individual whom has been harmed by this device is expected to continue using the defective chair for 48 weeks. This is unacceptable and an immediate recall of this brand of chair needs enacted upon.]

The product, in the report: Jesolo Dark Gray Reclining Sofa by Ashley furniture.
Discovered a serious pinch hazard with my reclining sofa set. When the recliner is operated the side of the sofa lowers down to the floor. My two year old stands next to the sofa when talking to me while I’m sitting down. If I were to move my weight forward or backward while her toes were under that portion it would severely pinch them with all the weight of the sofa and persons sitting in them. This needs to be recalled immediately I do not want this product in my house and I don’t want to be at a loss for the product I purchased.

The product, in the report: Collinsville sectional sofa [Recliner Chair]
This is a new sectional sofa set (Collinsville model) from Ashley Furniture. A guest was getting up from the left sided arm recliner, and the chair tipped over. When there is any amount of pressure on the arm of the chair, the studs on the chair disengage from the bracket on the adjoining chair, and it tips over. There is no mechanism to keep the chair from tipping over. We reported it to Ashley Homestore, and a technician came out today, and verified there is a design defect. However, they offered no repair for it. I went to the store’s showroom today, and their floor model does the same thing. This is a dangerous safety issue that the public needs to be aware of.

The product, in the report: Ashley Furniture Paramount DuraBlend - Brindle Power Recliner. Dark Brown Leather, cup holders - theater type recliner. aka Reclining bed by other company’s. Zero degree recline for heart, legs, sleeping. Plugs in for power reclining - great for handicap like me.
Ashley Furniture Paramount DuraBlend - Brindle Power Recliner
The power recliner stopped working, and smell like it was burning. Found out that, all the wiring was not safely mounted inside on the frame etc..so it wouldn’t get caught in the gears. Due to this, in 4-5 places the wiring got caught, crushed and cut in the gears when used the last time.
This could have started a fire, or electrical shock.. or both.!
I can’t find the receipt after moving and cannot remember where we purchased it. Contacted the company.. and even though this is there product name/brand product - dangerous product defect, they told me the store was responsible for the taking care of the issue..
I also told them I am handicap, and I need this recliner either repaired or replaced at there cost, although, I believe replacing it would be safer..
They have another chair like this - that was recalled for lead paint on the legs, and other issues with there other recliners. Please Help me.! I can’t afford to replace or repair it.! Thank you.!

The product, in the report: Reclining Chair
On 5/18/2012 the consumer’s two young children, ages 1yr old and 2 were sitting on their mother’s lap in the reclining chair extended. As the 1 year old slid down from her mother’s lap, her leg became caught between the recliner and the chair extension. The 1 year old did not sustain any serious injuries. Later the 2 year had the same incident with neither sustained major injury. Both of the children’s legs were entrapped by the recliner. The retailer was contacted 5/23/2012 and she asked them to make the recliner not recline anymore. They advised her that she would have to return the item and pay a re stocking fee of $200. The consumer feels that the recliner should be child proof or provided a covering when in the reclined position for children to not slide through. She also feels that she should not have to pay a re stocking fee on a unit that is a hazard to her young children.
