I purchased the following item from a Walmart http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nickelodeon-Dora-All-Together-Micro-Raschel-Throw/15223351 The tag bears a manufacture or distribution date of August 2010 along with a Batch# 020810. My two year old daughter was put in bed at 8pm last night with this blanket. At around 9pm I heard banging like I have never heard before and a noise resembling a wild animal in her room. I went into her room and discovered about two feet of the pink border of the blanket wrapped around her neck and she was purple and choking. I removed the blanket from her and inspected her neck. The only thing I saw were normal pink marks associated with this kind of accident. Normal breathing returned almost immediately and she required no medical attention nor does she seem to have suffered any long term ill effects. Once my husband and I knew our daughter was alright, my husband went to the store and found the same product. He did notice at that time that the original packaging indicated that the blanket should not be used in cribs. My education tells me that is due to a possible risk of SIDS and not due to the fact that a toddler would be able to find a defect in the craftmanship of this product and it could cost his or her life. After this incident, we removed the entire pink border because we realized that the blanket was still usable and wouldn’t be able to cause further harm. However after more thought we returned the item because we realized that the store needed to look at its inventory and determine if this was an isolated incident or if this product should be pulled from the shelf. I think it should also be noted that when the border was removed, all three tags that were sewn into the product came along with it. Also, on the tag that contained the batch #, those numbers are obviously printed on a sticker---or at least on my particular product, they were as the bottom of the first three numbers of the batch were in the middle of the tag instead of being where they were supposed to be. My husband placed the bottom of the first three numbers where they needed to be. Even though we returned the product I still wanted to write to you regarding these three safety issues----my child being able to remove two feet of the border by herself, the 3 tags coming off simultaneously once the border over the tags is removed, and a sticky adhesive label that was able to be placed and removed with ease. We feel very fortunate that our daughter made enough noise to alert me that something was wrong but if these matters are not investigated and remediated, another little one, another family may not be so lucky.
