The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Full-size duvet cover

In late August I bought an item through Amazon (Another Vintage World Map Duvet Cover). This duvet cover was for my daughter, and we put it on her bed without laundering. Yesterday and the day before (September 19-20), shortly after touching this duvet cover, I had serious allergic reactions, and the second time a trip to the emergency room. My throat swelled so much that for the rest of the day I had difficulty swallowing. I documented the second incident and can provide a photo of the swelling where I had touched my lip (of course you can’t see the swelling that partially closed my throat), and the emergency room report upon request.

I am deeply concerned that these duvet covers are going out to other people, including children, who may be even more sensitive than I am, resulting in serious illness or even death. I reported this to Amazon and they refunded my purchase price, but Society6 has not responded to my emails and they are still offering the item for purchase. Their website shows them to be a place for artists to sell their products, and the specific artist listed as the maker of this duvet is “beaulac-MJDesigns”. I Googled the name and it is [REDACTED]. Her website is in French so she may be in France or Canada.

There is no way for me to be 100% certain that the duvet cover is what caused the reaction because the doctor told me to never touch it again and I am definitely not going to! But both times the swelling began moments after I touched the fabric and then touched the part of my face that swelled up. We have nothing else new in the home, and I am seldom on my daughter’s bed so it is easy to backtrack. The doctor said that the plastic it was shipped in may have been coated with a pesticide which was transferred to the fabric (we discarded the packaging as soon as it arrived), or it may be something in the fabric itself. I have had a sensitivity to pesticides on fruit in the past, so this would make sense. I plan to have my daughter put gloves on and place the duvet in a plastic garbage back when she comes home today, because it seems like someone should test it. I have no way to do that and the company won’t respond to my emails, so I am asking for your guidance. If you are unable to help, I will simply throw it away and pray that this was an isolated incident.
