The product, in the report: Lowes Style Selections Black Fireplace Shovel Item # 291650 Model #613 The fire department staff looked this information up while I was there
I was using my Lowes “Style Selections Black Fireplace Shovel” Item #291650 Model #613 last night to move some woodstove coals around so that i could put in another piece of firewood when the shovel itself burst into flames. The exterior black paint layer burned very hot and very fast and travelled up the length of the shovel. I was able to put it out when it reached the handle. I was wearing fireplace (welders) gloves and was not hurt. When it was out I put it outside on a piece of granite to cool and sent your organization an email to report the incident. Today I took the shovel to the Ellsworth Fire Department to show the officers. Every one there, including the Fire Captain and the Fire Inspector were very concerned because there are probably hundreds of these shovels even in our small town. They took pictures and the Inspector would like to have the shovel if your organization does not want me to send it to them.
