  1. No one hurt

Made May 23, 2014, sent to the company Jun 4, 2014, published by CPSC Jun 18, 2014

The product, in the report: bunk beds

I purchased this bunk bed from Overstock.com on 4//11/2014 for my 3 year old twin sons. We opted to not stack the beds yet (thankfully), and purchased this set in part because they could be used as two twin beds. On 5/14/2014, as one of my son’s was getting into bed, the side rail that connects the headboard and the foot board broke completely in half, making the bed unusable. Had the beds been stacked, and this happened to the side rail of the top bunk, it would/could have crushed the child on the bottom bunk, plus injured the person on top as well. After working with Overstock for over a week they have agreed to refund my money and instructed me to destroy the bed. The rep I just spoke with at Overstock looked at the return reason for others that have returned this bed, and said that there were quite a few issues reported with this bed and that a broken side rail was the primary reason for the majority of the returns. I questioned why they continue to sell the bed and why there has not been a recall. She couldn’t answer either question, but agreed that they may need to look into it more closely. I am hoping to have a recall issued before someone is seriously hurt by this known issue.
